Basic Mathematics Notes

1. Addition

Addition is combining two or more numbers to get a total.

Example: 5 + 3 = 8

2. Subtraction

Subtraction is taking one number away from another.

Example: 10 - 4 = 6

3. Multiplication

Multiplication is repeated addition.

Example: 4 x 3 = 12

4. Division

Division is splitting a number into equal parts.

Example: 12 ÷ 4 = 3

5. Fractions

A fraction represents a part of a whole.

Example: 1/2 means one part out of two equal parts.

6. Decimals

Decimals are numbers with a point to represent part of a whole.

Example: 0.75 = 75/100

7. Order of Operations (BODMAS)

BODMAS stands for Brackets, Orders, Division, Multiplication, Addition, and Subtraction.

Use this order to solve math problems correctly.

8. Place Value

Each digit in a number has a place value.

Example: In 345, 3 is in the hundreds place, 4 is in the tens place, and 5 is in the ones place.

9. Even and Odd Numbers

Even numbers are divisible by 2 (like 2, 4, 6).

Odd numbers are not divisible by 2 (like 1, 3, 5).

10. Tables (1 to 10)

1x1=1

2x1=2

3x1=3

4x1=4

5x1=5

6x1=6

7x1=7
