His first wife was Catherine of Aragon, the widow of his brother,
prince Arthur. She is best known for her involvment in the sparking
of the Reformation. Catherine had given birth to stillborns, had
misscariages, gave birth to a girl – Mary, and when she did give birth
to a boy, he died seven weeks later. After their marriage was annulled,
she was banished from the castle and sent to live in Kimbolton Castle
in Cambridgeshire, where she died.
His second wife was a lady-in-waiting for Catherine of Aragon , Anne
Boleyn. She is his most famous wife, because he started his own
religion so that he could marry her. She gave birth to a girl – Elizabeth
I, and after she had many miscarriages. Because of that, he began
searching for another wife who could give him a son, thus meeting
Jane Seymour. He wanted to marry her, so he ordered Anne to be
investigated for high treason. In the end, she was charged for adultery,
incest and plotting to kill the king, which ended in her beheading in
the Tower of London.
The third wife of Henry the VIII was Jane Seymour. She was thought
to be his favourite wife, because she gave him a son, King Edward VI.
She died a few weeks later after his birth. Henry VIII is burried next to
her and she was the only one who got a queen’s funeral.
The fourth wife of Henry VIII was Anne of Cleves. Their marriage was
purely political and was quickly annuled. He had no children with
her .
The fifth wife of Henry VIII was Catherine Howard. She was young
and the cousin of his now late wife Anne Boleyn. There were rumours
that she had an affair ,which led to her being investigated and
beheaded in the end.
His last wife was Catherine Parr. She was the one who outlived him
adn is known as the most married queen of England. Since she held
strong Protestant sympathies, anti-protestants tried to turn Henry
against her. That resulted in a warrant for her arrest, but she
outwitted them and reconciled with her husband. She didn’t have kids
with Henry VIII.
