Syntax: The Sentence Patterns of Language

Syntax refers to the rules and processes that govern the structure of sentences in a given language, including word order. It comes from Greek terms meaning "together" and "ordering". Syntax determines the correct order of elements in a sentence, such as subject-verb-object in English. Changing the word order can make a sentence grammatically incorrect, though still understandable. The rules of syntax specify how phrases are combined into sentences.

Patterns of Language
 WHAT IS SYNTAX?

 The word syntax comes from Ancient Greek:
"coordination", which consists of syn, "together,"
and táxis, "an ordering".

 Syntax is the set of rules, principles, and

processes that govern the structure of sentences
in a given language, usually including word order.

"Syntax is the part of grammar that represents a

speaker's knowledge of sentences and their
structures.“
WORD ORDER

The rules of syntax are the combination between

phrases and phrases into the same sentence; indicating
the correct order of the sentence, for example in
English language the correct order for a sentence is
SUBJECT+VERB+OBJECT, if you change the order, the
sentences will no have sense, and it will be
