Artist vs. Artisan

The key difference between an artist and artisan is that while an artisan creates things with clear functional value, this is not always the case for an artist. An artist creates art for art's sake without needing ulterior motives, while an artisan is a skilled worker who handmakes objects like jewelry and furniture that have functional value in addition to aesthetic value.
