Erik Erikson
PERSONAL INFORMATION

Erik Erikson is best known for his


famous theory of psychosocial
development and the concepts of the
identity crisis. His theories marked an
important shift in thinking on
personality.

CHILDHOOD
Erik Erikson was born on June 15,
1902 in Frankfurt Germany. His young
jewish mother Karla Abrahamsen
raised Erikson by herself for a time
before marrying a physician , Dr.
Theodre Homberger.
YOUNG ADULTHOOD
Erikson never received a formal degree
in medicine or psychology. His
stepfather a doctor wanted him to go to
medical school but Erikson instead did a
brief stint in art school.
FAMILY
Erikson met a Canadian dance
instructor named Joan Serson
who was also teaching at the
school where he worked. The
couple married in 1930 and went
onto have three children. His son
Kai T. Erikson , is a noted
American sociologist.
Erikson move to the United States
in 1983 and despite having no
normal degree , was offered a
teaching position at Harvard
medical school. He also changed
his name from Erik Homberger
to Erik H.

Sigmund Freud
PERSONAL INFORMATION

Sigmund Freud was an Austrian


neurologist who is perhaps most known
as the founder of psychoanalysis. Freud
developed a set of therapeutic
techniques centered on talk therapy that
involved the use of strategies such as
transference, free association, and dream
interpretation.

YOUNG ADULTHOOD

When he was young, Sigmund Freud’s


family moved from Frieberg, Moravia,
to Vienna, where he would spend most
of his life. His parents taught him at
home before entering him in Spurling
Gymnasium, where he was first in his
class and graduated summa cum laude.
CHILDHOOD

• Sigmund Freud was born on May 6th, 1856


in a rented room over a blacksmith's shop
in Freiberg in Moravia, a small town in what
is now a part of the Czech Republic, fifty
miles north of Vienna. He traced his sense
of confidence and destiny to his first years
growing up in the simple provincial town.
