UNDERSTANDING THE DIFFERENT TEMPERAMENTS
The Mediator is a “Neutral Diplomat”, providing:
• Firm but sensitive control
• Demonstrating deep knowledge and
understanding of human nature When we know who we are and why we act the way we do, we can begin to understand our inner selves, improve our personalities and learn to get along with others. Once you understand how to bring out your best, you will find that others look better too We are all born with our own temperament traits, our raw materials; our own kind of rock. Our kind of rock doesn’t change, but our shapes can be altered. So it is with our personalities. The quality of the raw material determines the beauty or otherwise of the finished product. My temperament is the real me; my personality is the dress I put on over me Understanding temperaments help us to: •Know what we are made of •Know who we really are •Why we act and react the way we do •Know our strengths and how to amplify them •Know our weaknesses and how to overcome them •Determines your preferences •Affects your performance •Motivates you •Affects your choices •Helps you to understand yourself better •Affects your dealings with others •Determines who you are When you understand the different personalities, the knowledge will help you to deal more effectively with your mate, your children, colleagues, neighbours, friends and relatives. You will be more tolerant and considerate in your dealings with others. It will prevent you from overly criticizing or condemning yourself or others Depending on the school of thought, we have: i) Choleric, Sanguine, Phlegmatic and Melancholic
ii) Drivers, Expressive, Amiable and Analytical
iii) Red, Green, Yellow and Blue
D - Directive Dominant (wants authority, prestige, freedom, varied activities, difficult assignments and challenges) I – Interactive Influencing (wants social recognition, popularity, people to talk to, fun activities, freedom of speech, control and freedom from details) S – Supportive Stable (wants the status quo, security conscious, wants to know the risk involved, need time to adjust) C - Competent Cautious (wants evidence and accuracy, no sudden changes, exact job description, a controlled work environment) • Choleric: Walks is with an ‘air of authority’ and one likely question is: “Who is in charge here”. • The Sanguine will like to befriend you
• The Phlegmatic will come needing reassurance
• The Melancholic will like to know what kind of
