SIX SIGMA:

IMPLEMENTING ON
ACADEMIA THROUGH
INNOVATION
TEAM MEMBERS

 WHAT IS SIX SIGMA:

• Degree of variation;
• Level of performance in terms of defects;
• Statistical measurement of process capability;
• Benchmark for comparison;
• Process improvement methodology;
• Strategy for change;
• A commitment to customers to achieve an
acceptable level of performance

MEASUREMENT SYSTEM ANALYSIS

 CONCLUSION OF MEASURE SYSTEM ANALYSIS:

v
v MOST CRITICAL SUBJECT IS
MECHANICS(TME102) WITH MAXIMUM
FAILURE OF 66.63%
STEP 3 : ANALYZE PHASE
 (PRESENTLY THIS PHASE IS UNDER PROCESSING)

 CALCULATION OF PRESENT SIGMA LEVEL:

1. STANDARD DEVIATIONS of all Monday test &

sessionals is calculated.
2. Using z chart and normal distribution, sigma level is
found in terms of DPMO.

3. Interaction session with the students who already
faced the exams in previous semester.
Ø Top 10 students from each section who scored well
Ø Bottom 10 students from each section who couldn’t
scored well.

STEP 4 : IMPROVE PHASE
1.
2.TRIZ :
(Teoriya Resheniya Izobretatelskikh Zadatch)
Ø It was proposed by Genrich Altshuller
Ø It is a problem solving ,analysis and forecasting tool.
Ø Includes 40 principles to sort out 39 contradictions.

WORK
 We found 10 equivalencies for 10 contradictions in
education system to use the respective principles to
solve the root causes.
CONTRADICTIONS
1.Consistency in attendance
2.Passing percentage
3.Wastage of time
4.Assignment
5.Study material
6.Test
7.Teaching process
8.Environment
9.Electronic media
10.Understanding

BRAINSTORMING SESSION
1.With faculties :
 MAJOR HIGHLIGHTED PROBLEMS……
 Students are mentally not present in the class.
 Not in a habit of making queries, not maintaining
proper eye contact during lectures.
 They hesitate a lot.
 Subjective manner of study procedure is not enough.
 Lack of proper revision of notes.
 Students are not present in class at proper time with
full strength, thus disturbs the class between
lectures.
 Lack of interest in lecture and study.
 Difference in I.Q. of different students.
 Lack of self discipline and sincerety towards study.

SOLUTIONS SUGGESTED REGARDING ABOVE
PROBLEMS….
 Practicals of the theoretical subject is must
 Visual display of images through projectors should be done for
making understanding easier and interesting.
 Electronic media should come into play for transferring information
and notes etc.
 Special classes should be conducted for weaker students.
 Objective of the lecture should be clarified.
 Class should be interactive.
 Students must revise the daily lectures regularly and properly.
 Tutorials are must, but should be short and should be given at
regular interval.
 Students should ask to give presentation of topic at the end of
each unit.
 Proper feedback mechanism should be there to review the
teacher’s way of teaching and the teacher should take it in a
positive way.
 Certain tools should be used to make learning process interesting
and thus to improve results.
 Teachers should must motivate the students to maintain positive
energy in themselves.
WORK IN PROCESS
 Now finally , we are almost done with analyze phase and half
way into the IMPROVE phase.
 We know the root causes of failures and the solution to check
it.
 We will now move to implement it and to find out the
measures to control it.
 We are also waiting for more results of tests and the proper
implementation of the project.
 We are also working on TRIZ to find out some contradictions
and the principles to improve the education system.
