Interior Plains
The Interior Plains are a deep, flat, and fertile land extending through
the middle of Canada from the north to the south.
These interior plains cover most of Alberta and Saskatchewan and
provide large areas for wheat production, often called the
"bread basket" of Canada, and other agricultural goods.
The Canadian Shield
• The Canadian Shield is made of metamorphic rocks,

which means rocks that have been transformed by heat,
pressure, or by chemical alteration.
A traveler to Canada would see large open areas of bare

rocks that are millions of years old.
• The Canadian Shield covers more than half of Canada,

including Ontario and Quebec, and is an important
resource for minerals.
Great Lakes (St. Lawrence
Lowlands)
