to give trust to teammates is to

• Include important numbers, statistics, and other figures in the news
• Diversify lead and headline styles (Don’t do too much summary lead!)
• Always complete the news (Most CDP participants cut the news stories just to fit in the layouting
space eventhough the information being cut was a crucial one (Remember: content is the master!
Design is the servant)
• To avoid cutting crucial details, follow the Inverted Triangle Format and do cut-off test in the tail of
the news.
• More action/motion photos. Less firing squad and ribbon cutting style.

For the Editorial/Opinion page, try to include all, if not, most of the

• Diversify stand/position (Don’t pick all topics that correlate to “for” stand and vis-à-vis.

persuade, editorial to praise)

TIPS FOR LAYOUT ARTIST
• Experiment. Unleash your creative side but never forget
the identity/brand of your publication.
• Stick to one to two color schemes/themes.
• Don’t forget the elements of balance.
• Always avoid thumbstoning.
• Ensure the degree of article importance in layout (specifically, for article
length, headline font sizes, headline styles, and photo size/spacing)
• Keyboard shortcuts are your best friends. They’ll save you time.
TIPS FOR
PHOTOJOURNALIST
• Bigger images are better.
• Go for action/motion photos (especially in sports). Avoid firing squad,
handshaking, and ribbon-cutting shots.
• If possible, take 2-3 shots of each subject, in both portrait and landscape
form, with different angles
• Remember the basics in photography: Rule of thirds, lighting,
composition, and such.
• Before taking photos, consider the articles written so you can write a good
caption for each photo that matches the story of the pages.

• One infographic (can be about DSPC 2024 in general or the editorial/column article written
• Editorial/column article of your choice (if the layout spacing permits)
