The project aimed to create an accessible air quality monitoring
system using the ESP8266 microcontroller as a local web server. It
integrated various sensors for gas and particulate matter, ensuring
accurate data collection through meticulous calibration. The
collected data were presented in real time via a user-friendly web
interface hosted on the ESP8266. Despite challenges in sensor
calibration and web interface optimization, the project successfully
delivered a functional system, offering users easy access to
comprehend air quality metrics.
Background of Project

Air pollution has significant influence on the concentration of

constituents in the atmosphere leading to effects like global
warming and acid rains. To avoid such adverse imbalances in
the nature, an air pollution monitoring system is utmost
important
 Problem Statement

The problem identified revolves around health risks associated with inhaling toxic
gases in both domestic and industrial settings. The proposed solution is the
development of an air quality monitoring system capable of instantly reporting
hazardous air conditions. This system aims to regularly monitor air quality and
transmit acquired data to a remote device. Users, connected wirelessly through an
Android smartphone, can access real-time information about the air quality in their
environment, enabling remote monitoring of rooms or offices for potentially
hazardous conditions without physically being present.
 Aim
The aim of this project is to design and construct of an IOT based indoor air quality
management system using Esp 8266 with a user friendly Graphical user interface.

 Objectives
 To design an IOT based indoor air quality management system using Esp 8266
 To develop an algorithm for the environmental air quality management system
 Based on the algorithm developed in (II) above, to develop a code in embedded C++
programming language to drive the Esp8266 microcontroller.
 To integrate the different unit that makes up the system.
To test the work on a proteus environment.
 Significance of Project

Security is one of the major needs of man therefore there is need to deploy every possible technological
means to make sure that the environment is safe for habitation. This project work is of great significance to
the field of engineering known as process control and automation and also a huge step towards technological
means of observing and informing us about our environment.

 Scope of Project

The project aims to build upon previous gas leakage detection systems by utilizing components like the
ATmega328 microcontroller, MQ-5 gas sensor, LCD, and buzzer. The system's core will be developed using
embedded C programming for the ATmega328p microcontroller. Its deployment is envisioned in various
settings such as homes, gas plants, or any location requiring LPG leakage monitoring. The Waterfall model
will be employed for development due to the system's sensitivity, ensuring a sequential and thorough
approach for optimal results.
 Review of Related Works
 2006 (Frank and Woods): Developed an infrared detection system to address gas accidents in coal mines
and enhance family safety from gas usage. The system relied on infrared optics for accurate gas detection,
leveraging the Lambert-Beer law for absorption relationships.
 2008 (Oluwatola and Tosin): Designed a GSM-Based Remote Monitoring System, emphasizing wireless
monitoring for wider application. The architecture comprised a monitoring center and remote monitoring
stations, employing TC35 GSM modules, MSP430F149 MCU, sensors, and VB-designed software for data
gathering and processing.
 2012 (Ahmed and Musa): Utilized PIC16F877 microcontroller for gas leak detection, highlighting the soft
real-time nature of the system, where missing deadlines could produce false outputs but not endanger human
lives.
 2014 (Brianna et al): Outlined the need for an efficient gas leakage detection system using Arduino
Duemilanove with ATmega328p, weight sensors, LCD display, GSM, and DC motor. Emphasized quick
