BRIEF PROFILE OF THE CENTRE
Centre for the Study of Social Exclusion and Inclusive Policy
mainly focus on the following issues:
 Conceptualizing discrimination, exclusion and inclusion
based on caste/ethnicity and religion.
 Developing understanding of the nature and dynamics of
discrimination and exclusion.
 Contextualizing and problematizing discrimination, exclusion
and inclusion
 Developing an understanding of discrimination at an
empirical level.
 Formulating policies for protecting the rights of theses groups
and eradicating the problem of exclusion and discrimination.

THRUST AREAS OF THE CENTRE

 Social Exclusion related to dalits, tribes, women, disabled


and minorities
 Newer forms of social exclusion: Inter-regional labor
flows, expanding informal sector, SEZs.
 Theoretical and empirical research on the mandatory theme
 The phenomena of Development and Deprivation in the era
of liberalization of the economy.

The Centre has conducted approximately 3
Research Studies, funded by national funding
agencies, since its establishment.
 Study of Indebtedness and Under Development of SC
Population in Punjab’ a project sponsored by Ministry
of Social Justice and Empowerment, Govt. of India
2009.
 A project on ‘Slums in Chandigarh: A survey of socio-
economic conditions of slum dwellers (2012-13).
 Three Monographs published on workers working in
informal sectors like vegetable vendors, Road side
Vendors and Quilt Makers in Chandigarh (2014) .

 A large well stocked library, 1843 books have been


added to the Centre’s library (till March 2012).
(In addition to the purchased books.
One hundred and eleven books donated by Ex Minster, Mr.
M.L.Ranga of Haryana to Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Centre, P.U,
Chandigarh). Along with that one Encyclopedia of the Indian
Diaspora and three volume of the Encyclopedia of dalits in
India).
 A Computer Lab with internet connectivity
 University has provided links to E-journals through
online library resources, which are available to the
students.
 Research Guidance is provided by the faculty.

FUTURE PLAN
 Centre going to start Pre- Ph.D course work for working
teacher from Dec 2014 onwards.
 M.Phil and Ph.D. program in Social Exclusion and
Inclusive Policy in the pipeline.

 In the second phase the Postgraduate programmes


including, Certificate and Diploma courses would be
started by the Centre.

 Beside the above mentioned academic courses, the


center will take up research projects on various socially
excluded groups, e.g. Street Children, Marginalized
women, Sex Workers, Differently abled population etc.
shall be taken up. ( already applied a project to UGC on
“Balmiki and Mazhabi Sikh Mobalisation in Punjab:
A comparative Study”).

 Sensitization workshops, Seminars and training
workshops shall be organized for different stake
holders towards the realization of Inclusive
development.
Forthcoming Seminars in the Year 2015
 One Day National Seminar will be organised on
Minority Rights in India: Problems,
Experiences & Apprehensions on 18th March
2015 sponsored by Ministry of Minority Affairs ,
Government of India.

 Two days National Seminar will be organised on


“Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s Views on Social Justice,
Caste based discrimination on Dalit
Identity”27th and 28th March 2015.
