Whisper Game Challenge

Mechanics of the Game

I. Each group will be given a magic word.
II. All you have to do is to whisper the magic word to
your classmate while sitting on your chair until it
reached the last member of the group.
III. The last member will be the one to write the
magic word on the blackboard.
IV. The first group who write the correct magic word
will receive a prize.
The
Internal
Structure
of the
Earth
At the end of 60 minutes discussion the student should be able to;

1 identify the layers of the Earth;

2 label the parts of Earth’s internal structure; and

3 give the importance of studying layers of the Earth

EGG-CELLENT
EARTH
ACTIVITY
EGG-CELLENT EARTH
ACTIVITY
Guide Questions:

1. What layers of the Earth do the egg shell, egg

white, and egg yolk represent?
2. What do planet Earth and a hard-boiled egg
have in common?
3. Aside from boiled egg, give some example
that can be used as a model to represent the
layers of the earth
The Internal
Structure of the
Earth
CRUST - the outermost
layer of the earth which
forms a thin skin on Earth’s
surface and made up
mostly light elements, such
as silicon, oxygen, and
aluminium.
Continental Crust Oceanic Crust
 Light-colored  Dark-colored
 Rock sample:  Rock sample:
Granite Basalt
 Less dense  More dense
 Thick layer  Thin layer
 40-70 km  50 km
MANTLE - the middle
layer of the earth and the
longest part of the earth.
It is made up of molten
rocks called magma and
has a total thickness of
2900 km.
Upper Mantle Lower Mantle
 Lithosphere  Asthenosphere
 Rigid/Solid  Soft/Magma
 Moho boundary  Hot & exhibit
 660 km “plasticity”
 Convection arrest
 2240 km
CORE - the innermost layer of the earth
which composed of dense metals like
nickel and iron.
Outer Core Inner Core
 Iron & Nickel  Iron & Nickel
 Magnetic  Magnetic
 Liquid  Solid
 2300 km thick  1250 km
 Temperature is  Temperature is
between 4000°C 6000°C
& 5000°C. It is  Almost as hot as
very hot. the surface of the
 Cause of Earth’s sun
magnetic field  Pressure is so
great that the
alloy cannot melt
Moho Discontinuity
The upper boundary that
separates the upper mantle from
Earth’s crust.

Gutenberg Discontinuity
Detected between Earth’s lower
mantle and lower core.

Lehmann Discontinuity
The boundary between outer and
inner core.

watercolor then label its part. To be guided in grading here are the Criteria.

CRITERIA

Neatness 25%
Creativity 25%
Total: 100%

2. Study how the layers of the Earth connected to Earth’s magnetic field.
3. Research about the resources that can found in the Philippines.
