Creating a campus where all members can thrive
This center, which was formerly the Soka University Gender Equality Promotion Center which opened in April 2014, has changed its name to the Diversity and Inclusion Promotion Center in April 2022 in light of the current situation in which gender equality and diversity are required.
The Center has the objective of "establishing a system in which all members of the University, including faculty, students, and staff, can carry out research and educational activities while fully utilizing their respective characteristics, and carrying out the necessary projects to achieve this" (Article 1 of the Center Regulations). As part of its efforts regarding "Diversity: Building a Diverse Campus," which is set out in the New the Grand Design Initiative for 2030, the Center is promoting a business plan based on three themes: 1) setting and achieving the following goals: 20% female faculty ratio across all faculties, 2) 40% female employee ratio, and 3) the ratio of female managers.

Director the Diversity and Inclusion Promotion Center
YASUTAKE Taeko
While learning from the progress of gender equality in the academic world, the Center has been examining how to further gender equality at our university, and has been considering how to realize a campus that respects diverse personalities and abilities in this age of diversity. As part of the corporation's concrete efforts to realize a gender-equal society, the Tsubasa Nursery School was opened on campus in 2016, and the Soka University Female Graduate Student Fellowship Program was established in 2023 for female students who will be entering the doctoral program at the graduate school.
The founder, Tsunesaburo Makiguchi, states that the foundation of the Soka University philosophy, which originates from the Soka Educational Philosophy, is the Buddhist humanistic philosophy of "seeing the supreme Buddha in all people, and the dignity and equality of life" (The New Human Revolution, Vol. 15, p. 32). The idea of diversity and inclusion, where all people are respected and not disadvantaged due to differences such as gender, nationality, and age, is the very spirit of humanism that runs through Soka University. We will work together with students, faculty, and staff to build a campus where all members can demonstrate their individual characteristics and learn and work while respecting each other.
