Season 4 Fix-It/Post-Canon Fic Recs! pt. 2
this is part 2 of my fic rec list, for some more info see part 1!
here's to love (here's to us) - by trustingno1 John's speech at his and Sherlock's wedding, obviously it made me cry. but also laugh it's cute and silly and really sweet.
The Marriage Proposal Negotiation - by Goddess_of_the_Night John is on a date, and Sherlock crashes it by proposing to him. `Goes with my them getting engaged without dating headcanon.
All of bozuri's johnlock fics I've read all of them, and I love all of them, go read all of them.
To A Friend Who Sent Me Roses - by AlgySwinburne 5+1 of people mistaking Sherlock and John as a couple and Sherlock for Rosie's father. Obviously, in the end, it's not a mistake.
Morning, Love - by her_ladyships_soap John calls Sherlock 'love' by mistake one morning. They're not sure where to go from here. but they figure it out pretty quickly. Sweet and fluffy.
And here are a couple bonus ones that take place before Season 4:
A Sister's Ingenuity - by Crazyphangirl Harry gets up to some shenanigans after John tries to convince her there is nothing going on between him and Sherlock. (I wish there were more fics with Harry, she's so funny)
EMERGENCY CONTACT: Sherlock Holmes, RELATIONSHIP: n/a - by blueink3 Sherlock is John's emergency contact, a series of all the times he gets called because of it. This one is heartbreaking but with a happy ending.
All thanks to totallysilvergirl and baker-street-boys for recommending Bozuri's johnlock fics! I have just enjoyed her gorgeous connected stories of increasing intimacy and comfort between Sherlock and John while raising Rosie together. I highly recommend that you put them first in your to-do list!

“People would talk,” he tries, repurposing an old line, a shortcut to a recurring theme in their lives.

Rec: When John goes out of town for Harry’s wedding, it causes him and Sherlock to realize what they are missing.
This fic managed in under a minute to break through my Johnlock ennui and get my heart throbbing with its beautiful writing, understated humor, and thrumming emotions. AKA I’m still a sucker for “already in a relationship without realizing it.”
Make a Choice
702 Words / Prompt: Choice
John’s therapist smiles. She’s the new one, he thinks. Or the one after that. Sometimes it’s hard to keep it all straight.
“How are the wife and kids?” she asks.
John sighs, closing his eyes for a moment. “Here’s the thing. You ask me that about half the time. The other half, you ask me how my flatmate is, what crazy stuff he's got up to.”
She blinks, then frowns. “Do I?”
“Yes, you do. It’s like I’m two separate people to you. Two John Watsons.”
“Perhaps… you could say a bit more about that.” She’s fallen back into therapist-mode, and John knows it will be hopeless to explain.
He will try, though. “This is what my life is: two non-intersecting realities. In one, I'm living in Clapham with Mary and my two kids, Rose and Hamish. I have pub nights with my old army buddies, started biking to work a few months ago, and work at a surgery, treating sniffles and rashes. Sort of boring, but it's what I always expected my life to be.”
She smiles, uncertain. “Yes, I remember. You’ve mentioned your friend Bill.”
“Right.” He leans forward, shaking his head at the absurdity. “But that’s just half of it. In the other life— well, let’s call it another reality. I have one life, split between these two. In the other reality, I'm living with Sherlock Holmes. I never know what's going to happen when I wake up each day. There will be a spleen in the sink, no milk in the fridge because it's all been used for an experiment, and Sherlock will either be nowhere in sight, or flopped on the sofa, taking up as much space as possible with his notes. We go out on cases a few times a month. I've been shot at, stabbed, and got some sort of fungal infection from whatever that was in the sugar bowl. Sort of crazy, but never boring.”
She’s biting her lip now. “John. It’s not unusual for PTSD to manifest itself in… well, imaginings.”
“You mean hallucinations. And that’s not what I’m saying. What I mean is that I am living two lives. The wife-and-kids one, and the Sherlock one. I never know which one I’m going to wake up to. And I have no idea why it’s happening.”
Notebook open, she’s writing something. Upside-down, he reads: possible psychosis.
“No, I don’t think that’s it,” he says. “I’m not psychotic. I always know which reality I’m in. I’m not confused. So, I'm wondering. You're the only factor common to both of these worlds. Do you realise what's happening to me? Is this... an experiment?”
Yesterday, when he explained this, she offered to schedule him in twice a week and send him to a sleep specialist.
Today, in a different reality, she regards him with a half-smile. “Well, John, that’s a good observation. Very good. I would say that it’s time to make a choice.”
She holds a gun.
...
His head is splitting. Sherlock is talking, and John is trying to make sense of it.
“Every decision point creates two parallel realities. Yes and no. Turn right, turn left. Go through the park, get on a bus. You’re not aware of all the consequences of your choices, but they exist, as real as the fact of your life—”
“The park,” he says. “I went through the park.”
“I know.” Sherlock frowns. “Are you all right, John?”
“Of course I’m not all right—I’ve been shot!”
“Wrong. You’re concussed.” He leans over John, studying him like a specimen. “He hit you on the head and stole your wallet. Do you know who I am?”
“Of course I do. You’re my mad flatmate. And my therapist shot me.”
“Wrong. I’m your husband. And you don’t have a therapist.“
He closes his eyes. “I think some wires got crossed.”
Sherlock kisses him. “You’ll be fine.”
...
In a parallel reality, a thief is talking to his therapist.
“How are the wife and kids?” she asks.
He sighs, closing his eyes for a moment. “Here’s the thing. I stole this bloke’s wallet, and ever since, I’ve been living two lives.”
She smiles and leans forward. “Perhaps you could say more about that, John.”
What a ride, fantastic 😱 I'd read 50k of this, just so you know.
Please return us to a world where Notp and squick are used for a ship you don’t like instead of just making up a load of bullshit about how immoral it is or w/e lol
a short selection of concepts and phrases that used to be commonplace in fandom and we’d really benefit from making that a thing again:
NOTP: the opposite of an OTP (One True Pairing). It is a ship a fan strongly dislikes. The word is a portmanteau of ‘no’ and ‘OTP’ and thus is not a contraction of any particular phrase.
Squick: anything that is a deep-seated, visceral turn-off. Squicks may be shared by many fans or be specific to one; one person’s kink may be another person’s squick.
YKINMKATO, or kink-tomato: Your Kink Is Not My Kink, And That’s Okay: used to indicate support for fannish diversity and to distinguish between disapproval or kink shaming and simply having different taste.
DLDR: Don’t Like, Don’t Read: a phrase used to warn against complaints about an aspect of fic or meta. A “live and let live” philosophy of fandom, which places the responsability for avoiding content one doesn’t want to see on the side of the fanwork consumer, rather that on the creator’s.
SALS: Ship And Let Ship: similar to the above specifically about shipping tastes.
YMMV: Your Mileage May Vary: a phrase used to acknowledge that any given individual’s personal opinion on the topic at hand may differ due to their own tastes, standards, values, experiences, etc.
As the OP points out, all of these crucially imply no moral judgment of what they’re designing.
(definitions lifted more or less wholesale from fanlore’s relevant pages)
bring the healthy fun back to fandom!
If ever a time comes when I don’t reblog this when it appears on my dash, assume I’m dead
let us not lose the pithy jargon of the fandom Archons.

hi! i was hoping you'd be able to help me find a fic i haven't been able to find for a long time.
i remember this johnlock fic where they have to pretend to be on a honeymoon at some island I think. John steals a laptop while sherlock pretends to contract anthrax from the big bad to make him feel like he's won and then he wakes up in a hospital bed and they kiss for real and they live happily ever after
i remember reading it maybe around 2016 or 2017, and i'm not sure if i've just lost it or if it's been deleted so i was hoping you could help! thank you!
Hey Nonny!
I’ve read a lot of fake dating/marriage fics and I’m not familiar with this one.
Maybe someone out there knows?
Reblog if you are okay with people giving you lots of boops!
reblog if fanfic writing has been a source of happiness for you and has helped with your mental health
It has changed my life, from top to bottom it's changed it and made it better. Finding community — which fanfiction directly helped me do — changes everything.

WIP Wednesday: Through a Glass, Darkly
Coming soon!
It begins in an alley. Two alleys, to be accurate. John and Sherlock, chasing a suspect. Holmes and Watson running for their lives.
“There’s nowhere to go.” Sherlock’s calm voice echoes off the alley walls. “If you turn yourself in, I will see that you get reasonable terms. Your crimes are all financial, though I suspect that if we go looking for murder, we’ll find a few that can be attributed to you. Surrender now, and it will go better for you.”
Stepping out where they can see her, she holds a gun pointed in the direction of Sherlock’s voice. She must know that he wouldn’t come alone, that John is somewhere in the darkness, his gun drawn.
“No thanks,” she says, and fires.
Parallel stories, in two different timelines/realities. While Sherlock and John run from Scotland Yard, accused of a crime they didn't commit, Holmes and Watson must figure out the mystery behind what happened in that alley.
Thanks for reblogging! ❤️
Let me know if you'd like to be tagged for this one!
WIP Wednesday on Friday
Thank you @calaisreno for tagging me!
My main writing project this year has been another installment in the Drawn to Stars series, written with @7-percent.
Inferno (working title): Sherlock is approached to help crack a Mafia art-theft case--The Big One that just might unlock hundreds of others. John is not best pleased at sacrificing their long-planned post-Covid holiday in Italy, to work with Roberto Fucking Zanardi.
FTH fic with no working title. (Working tag: Donavan really is a good egg.) After John’s wedding, Donovan scrapes Sherlock off the floor of a dosshouse. They find common ground in wanting the married man and hurting for it. Donovan gives Sherlock an ultimatum: get to work or get into rehab. Sherlock gets to work: Lady Smallwood, Janine, Magnusson, and all the rest of it follow. (for the brilliant Anyawen)
FTH fic with no working title. Sherlock is marrying an American, and at the rehearsal dinner, best man John makes a drunken love confession he doesn’t remember the next day. Badly hungover, John chases all over London looking for the wedding, the grooms, or at least some witnesses who can tell him what happened. Finally he flies to Venice to apologize to the love of his life and the love of his life. A happy Johnlock ending. (for Randomwordsonpaper)
Still in the “plotting and writing short dialogues” stage:
Rowantree Farm AU: Sherlock is a star so massive he has an entourage, and John's a surgeon bereft of his vocation. The Sherlock team descends on the farm B&B where John is holding down the fort during the landlady’s family emergency. One of them falls head over heels in love, and it isn’t John.
Of course there are always shorties bubbling away on the back burner for Solace and Joy (fluffbruary series) and A Thousand Words (ficlets based on Johnlock art).
Now you, @janeofcakes @algyswinburne @lololollywrites @copperplatebeech @ohmrshudsontookmyskull @onesmallfamily @blogstandbygo @jobooksncoffee @thegildedbee @a-different-equation @elwinglyre @mydogwatson @gaylilsherlock @topsyturvy-turtely @helloliriels and anyone up for sharing! Thanks for reblogging!
A lovely Johnlock winter solstice story!
Summary:
The night before they travel to Dorset to spend Christmas with Sherlock's parents and John's wife, 221 Baker Street is peaceful with the smell of baking, flickering candles and presents under the tree. But Father Christmas can't be relied upon to bring the boys their heart's desires. Just as well Mrs Hudson - who is NOT a fairy godmother OR their housekeeper, thank you very much - is so good at her job.
