idk when we decided that explaining yourself shouldn't be part of an apology but like. if someone was a dick to me and apologizes but I still don't understand why they did it I'm not gonna feel any better

"Sorry for hurting your feelings earlier. I was trying to say x, but I guess it came across wrong. I don't think you're stupid."

or

"Sorry I snapped at you. I didn't get enough sleep last night so my patience is a little low today."

is a better apology than

"I want you to know that I am sorry that my actions offended you. I take full accountability for my actions and I am listening and learning. I hear you."

People have started to equate explanation with excuse when they are NOT the same. You aren't excusing your actions if you explain them. "Hi I'm sorry I was so snappy earlier, I didn't get enough sleep last night but that's not on you and I'm going to be a little more careful with my tone" is very different from "You can't be mad at me because there was a good reason I was rude"

Somebody finally said it. All my apologies are genuine and come with an explanation of intentions.

Why? Not as an excuse. Because I want you to know I'd never intentionally hurt you, make you feel insecure, etc. Of course I'm going to change my behavior afterward, but I want you to know up front that there is respect and love for you on my end. That I wouldn't hurt you just to hurt you.

#explanations are so important to me#because communication and trying to do better are important to me#if someone says sorry but gives no indication that they understand WHY what they did hurt me and WHY it happened#how do I know that they'll work to make sure it doesn't happen again#the same applies to me when I apologize#unfortunately not everyone seems to agree with this logic#and it causes Problems#relationships#important things

I've been obsessed with Severance recently so this should come as no surprise, but can't stop thinking about how well a stucky/HTP Severance AU would work. Think about it...

  • SHIELD = Lumon
  • HYDRA = severed and/or testing floor – shadowy department within SHIELD committing human rights violations under everyone's noses for the Greater Good
  • Steve = Mark – chooses to join SHIELD and become severed after his best friend/lover "dies" tragically
  • Bucky = Gemma – severed against his will after a "fatal" accident, experimented on, and held captive in a secret facility under SHIELD
  • Peggy = Helena/Helly – the head of SHIELD, falls in love with Steve (resulting in Steve abandoning Bucky after rescuing him from HYDRA)
  • Rumlow = Mr Milchick – part of both worlds, dedicated to his work, has to manage Steve and deal with SHIELD/HYDRA's nonsense

It's kinda perfect

Imagine if you grew up in a horrifically traumatic and abusive environment where you were not loved and then you could watch a version of yourself without all that trauma and social conditioning and fear that you have and they’re a better person than you are, they’re loved a great deal and they’re more rebellious than you’ve ever been. I’m surprised Helena isn’t going MORE insane tbh
