SITH! OBI-WAN & ANAKIN SKYWALKER | WHAT IF? STAR WARS BY ME. I always liked the idea of Obi-Wan corrupted by the dark side, so i made this. Star Wars really needs a what if show.

[Image description: Digital painting in two panels, of Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker as of the time of Revenge of the Sith. Obi-Wan has fallen to the Dark Side of the Force and though he still wears his brown Jedi robes, the irises of his eyes are red and orange and his light saber blade is red. He has a cruel and calculating expression and says, "Obi-Wan? Well. That's a name I haven't heard in a long time." Anakin's light saber blade is blue, and he looks shocked and dismayed.]

Hi! I wasn't sure what blog to send this on, so I just went with main.

I wanted to let you know that as a result of Iron Must Suffice and the amazing Khuzdul in it, I have begun to include language shenanigans in my own WIP. One of the characters speaks entirely in Middle English (or whatever botched version I can manage). The conjugation is still difficult, but it's really fun and I have also learnt some new HTML as a byproduct.

I'm learning so much cool stuff about language, through both this and other research, and having so much fun with this, and for that I must thank you. I would never have picked up linguistics to the extent that I have (and still want to) without reading your fic, and it's now such a big thing for me that when I realised when uploading a chapter tonight that I didn't think I had told you, I felt like I should do so.

I don't really know how to end asks, but thank you so much again because not only was that fic utterly amazing, but it got me into a hobby that I enjoy so much it startles me.

Hey! I am so, so glad to hear that! I love that you've found a new passion, that's an amazing feeling (and this is biased, but you've landed on a great one!).

I'm also so happy you reached out to tell me your heightened interest was sparked by reading my fic, that is an absolute honor and I'm so touched you thought to reach out and tell me.

Feel free to "talk shop" any time you like in my inbox, I always welcome fellow linguistics nerds around here :) Thanks again for telling me this, and best of luck with your new project and interest!

hi, a lot of you need a perspective reset

  • the average human lifespan globally is 70+ years
  • taking the threshold of adulthood as 18, you are likely to spend at least 52 years as a fully grown adult
  • at the age of 30 you have lived less than one quarter of your adult life (12/52 years)
  • 'middle age' is typically considered to be between 45-65
  • it is extremely common to switch careers, start new relationships, emigrate, go to college for the first or second time, or make other life-changing decisions in middle age
  • it's wild that I even have to spell it out, but older adults (60+) still have social lives and hobbies and interests.
  • you can still date when you get old. you can still fuck. you can still learn new skills, fashionable, be competitive. you can still gossip, you can still travel, you can still read. you can still transition. you can still come out.
  • young doesn't mean peaked. you're inexperienced in your 20s! you're still learning and practicing! you're developing social skills and muscle memory that will last decades!
  • there are a million things to do in the world, and they don't vanish overnight because an imaginary number gets too big
Bad thing: *happens*
Me: Well, I guess it’s time to find a 100k fanfiction and keep reading till I lose all sense of reality and forget about all my problems and instead focus on the More Important Problems of imaginary people.

“The old magic persists thanks to it’s unfathomable power.”

No, the old magic persists because the new magic can’t run the legacy spells I need to do my job, and keeps trying to install spirits I don’t want or need onto my orb.

Look, if the new magic didn't have a personality construct that kept trying to tell me which spells to use, maybe I wouldn't still be using the old magic.

Yes it had a deep blood cost, but at least it was a one time sacrifice and not this monthly bloodletting nonsense new age magic has

The old magic is robust enough to survive a decade of use and it's compatible with every wand, staff, scroll, and charm in our collection.

The new magic stops working after three days and every spell uses proprietary runes.

Our preferences, as an archiving institution, should be pretty clear.

I just had a truly horrible realization. I was talking about the worldbuilding in fma with someone the other day, and they mistakenly said it took place during the Victorian era, or Amestris’s equivilant to it.

I, being a lover of fashion history as well as an insufferable pedant, corrected them by saying that both the year(s) it takes place in as well as many of the technological and cultural influences seen in the world are actually more in line with the subsequent, much shorter era known as the…

the Edwardian era.

God fucking dammit.

of course it’s a much shorter era.

[ Video Description: A video captioned, “I tried to take a cute video of the babies but Carter is a yoghurt monster” In the video, two pet rats are eating yogurt at a reasonable pace out of a container being held by a human. Another rat, Carter, comes out from somewhere behind the other two, sniffs the yogurt for a moment and, upon realizing what it is, dives face first into the container and scarfs down as much yogurt as possible, prompting the original two rats to do the same before the human pulls the yogurt container away, Carter trying to cling onto the container the whole while with yogurt all over his face. End VD. ]

What they don’t tell you about speaking multiple languages is that your brain does not in fact have a box labeled Spanish and another one labeled German. Instead it has a box labeled “Not English” and sometimes when you’re talking or writing in one of the languages you speak it will just start pulling random words from that box.

I just wrote down “Tengo eine Katze” and then put my head in my hands
