There's something just so sick about the fact that Jame sired who knows how many children to try to create a child he saw Kier in like he saw in Helena when she was a child, but no other children had Kier in them. It was just child Helena. So his next solution was Helly. He recreated Helena's inner child by removing her memories of his abuse. And it worked. He removed in Helena what he broke in the first place to create the child he wanted her to be. This entire time what he wanted was inside Helena buried underneath all the abuse HE put her through. And he abuses Helly too. He basically created Helly to try and re abuse her in a way that would turn her into what he wants her to be.

It WAS Helly at the end of the episode. โ€œHelly was never cruelโ€ but did you ever think that Helly might be selfish? That she wants certain things and would do anything to get them? She doesnโ€™t hold any malice towards Gemma, but the fact is, she loves Mark and desperately wants to be with him. Helly, like Mark. S, is not so selfless that sheโ€™d sacrifice her love for the sake of a stranger. Something is lost when we assume that only Helena is capable of being self-serving.

markโ€™s love for gemma didnโ€™t transcend severance because he didnโ€™t want it to. he underwent the procedure to forget about her for half of his life, out of emotional convenience, and thatโ€™s exactly what happened. ms casey was drawn to him, gemmaโ€™s final innie trusted him. but innie mark only had empathy for her and nothing more. he wanted to reap the emotional and financial rewards of innie mark with no repercussions, but he didnโ€™t realize, or didnโ€™t care, that what innie mark puts in, he canโ€™t take out. his connection with helly and helena cannot be shaken, because thatโ€™s him. because thatโ€™s the consequence of his decision. and thatโ€™s the beauty of mark and gemmaโ€™s love story in my opinion, how love no matter how grand and fulfilling sometimes just isnโ€™t enough, and how you and capital undoes it. and now youโ€™re in love with someone else, who is half of your life, more than gemma, and you have no one to blame but yourself. why should he suffer no consequences, not just because โ€œoh theyโ€™ve suffered so muchโ€ but in terms of story? what are the stakes? where is his character development? he canโ€™t go back to the same life he had with gemma they are no longer the same people. innie markโ€™s decision is just as much his own. gemma knows that and she wonโ€™t forget it. and she shouldnโ€™t.

The thing thatโ€™s crazy is like. Mark S was so excited to talk to his outie. So excited to see what he was like. Kinda like how his whole face lit up in s1 when Devon told him he was a teacher. He was so happy. And then Mark Scout tells him โ€œMs. Cobel says thereโ€™s someone you like down there. Iโ€™m glad you got to have thatโ€ like heโ€™s talking to a kindergartener who handed out a valentine to their crush at recess. Then he calls Helly โ€œHelenyโ€. Couldnโ€™t be bothered to learn her name even though he knows they slept together. And the respect Mark S had for his outie vanishes. There was no choice. โ€œThey give us half a life and think we wonโ€™t fight for it.โ€ Well, heโ€™s fighting now.
