Favorite Movies - Tag Game

films listed from left to right:

most of these are my comfort films; grew up watching them with my parents. ranging from action, thriller, to sci-fi and romance, each film speaks out to me on a spiritual and personal level. even now that i’m in university, recollections of my mom and dad’s weekly routines of preparing beddings (throw pillows and comforters) on our living room floor so me, my sister, and our dog can lay down to watch the movies with them comes in mind. my olfactory senses, immediately triggered, as i recognize the freshly opened belgian chocolate with mom’s favorite red wine together with dad’s obsession with stale chips even when i’m all alone rewatching said films— such memories that i didn’t even know were embedded in the corner of my mind. though i have to be honest, my parents being vocal of their criticisms towards Twilight is something i can only laugh about now. Along with My Best Friend’s Wedding, they share the same spot of best soundtrack amongst the list. i’m not gonna give a deep analysis on which film i would rank number one as these are all special to me and i just can’t choose a top favorite. however, i feel obliged to give out these Honorable Mentions as i can’t fit them on the list anymore but i still think are worth mentioning:

honestly I was so excited to see all these films interwoven into one post like this and I get to talk about it… no idea how happy it makes me. my dad is a film buff and my earliest memories are going to the cinema at least once a month and filling our weeks with movies.. i remember watching Finding Nemo, The Star Wars Franchise and The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe all within a span of a week. movies have always been really important to me. Mamma Mia was the first movie I was obsessed with and could watch it endlessly, even a decade and a bit, it still is a movie I can watch without growing tired of it. Brooklyn is an amazing romance movie and it’s so beautiful. So beautiful. It puts a smile on my face every time. Blinded By The Light is a movie I feel really connected to and it’s given me ideas along the way and the concept of it is amazing. Stand By Me is a movie that I first watched in my Dad’s car whilst he was playing rugby and I developed a crush on River Pheonix. Toy Story reminds me of childhood memories with my brothers and I each with our own milk bottle or little sippy cups. Grave of The Fireflies is a super sad fucking movie. I watched it because my friend had recommended it to me and I cried a fuckton. 1917 is a war film that I strangely fell in love with. It kept me on my toes and my attention was just completely grappled by it throughout and even after it had well ended. Finally, The Last Holiday is a film I’m just always inspired by and love to see. A shame they took it off Netflix.. All of them are a part of me in some form and I find that outstanding. 

 Honorable Mentions : 

I watched this movie literally the day I was tagged but it was an amazing movie and I saw no plot holes, I thought it was damn near perfect ‘Top Gun : Maverick’ and Hairspray was another movie I obsessed over. Lastly  is Indiana Jones And The Last Crusade a movie that I love and just fills me up with this indescribable feeling.

What a mix! I chose to represent (in no particular order besides LoTR being ON TOP WHERE IT BELONGS 😤): the entire Lord of the Rings trilogy, Spider Man: Into the Spiderverse, White Christmas, The Emperor’s New Groove, Everything Everywhere All At Once, What We Do in the Shadows, the Downton Abbey movies, Beetlejuice, & Atlantis: the Lost Empire 🤙🏻

Lord of the Rings is just…hands-down, peak for me, the best movie experience. Fight me. Ok, don’t actually, but yeah it’s a special movie for my whole family who watches them at least once a year & is loved by a family I’m really good friends with & care for deeply. They’re just so good & one of only a handful of movies I don’t get tired of rewatching ever. Same with White Christmas, honestly, like my family watches it every year & quotes along just like LoTR. It reminds me of family time & is just SO FUNNY with such good lines. I love both Danny Kaye & Bing Crosby to death & the girls are wonderful performers too- one of few musicals I’ll let slide 😌 Into the Spiderverse is just…art. It’s a great action movie that’s family-friendly but not overly kiddie, it features a diverse world & POC lead, & it combines traditional, comic, & 3D animation in a way that shows so much love for the cast while being dynamic & super visually appealing. I literally love it so much. Emperor’s New Groove is unironically some of the height of comedy in my mind. One of Disney’s best movies fight me again 😤⚔️ Everything Everywhere All At Once…was amazing. Art once again. Well-made, dealt with serious & goofy topics, had me laughing & crying & thinking & loving. As a queer woman who has a harder relationship with her mother, I lost it at the mother-daughter dynamic & it made me almost want to come out. But I just felt moved & seen & broken & healed by it & loved that it didn’t turn out in despair. Waymond Wang is a KING. What We Do in the Shadows was made by one of my FAVORITE creatives, the super duper talented & attractive Taika Waititi. His sense of humor just hits the nail on the head just about every time for me, I love his acting, I love the supernatural, the premise is hilarious, I love Rhys Darby…it’s just great ok? I’m a huge Downton Abbey fan so of course I included the movies that continue my favorite show, just fun check-ins with the beloved characters! They introduce a dense character pool but TREAT ALL OF THEM WELL for the most part & show you why you should care about them, even some you may hate at first. Just a great show & something that helped me bond with my mom which is nice 🥺 she enjoyed the show & recommended it to me, then we had something to share & talk about & we watched the latest movie in theatres together- her first time in at least 2 years at the theatre! 🅱️lus I just love a good period/historical fiction hehe. Beetlejuice is… just my kind of content. I love supernatural, dark humor, humor, zaniness, & wholesome family dynamics & it has it all. I wasn’t expecting the ending, but it was just what I wanted! A wild ride, definitely not to the tastes of all but so for me, that wrapped up perfectly & you know I’m a sucker for a good closing 😌 Atlantis: the Lost Empire is unique, diverse, fun, creative, & just completely unlike anything Disney had done or did again. They had a wonderful era I always cite & this one is a prime example. Just a super cool movie I love it!!!

Honorable mention to other Disney movies like Who Framed Roger Rabbit?, Treasure Planet, Big Hero 6, & Encanto which are also favorites, plus the original Star Wars trilogy &, controversially, Eternals. What? It was very ‘me’ like Beetlejuice, big diverse character pool, fantasy, adventure, some found family-ish dynamics faintly sprinkled in, visually appealing moments, that whole Bollywood scene EXCUSE ME. It may have been a bit corny or some see it as a plot hole, but it was very enjoyable to me besides Ikarus being annoying… like sorry I simp for Druig & Makkari I don’t make the rules.

Okay so to start out we have “Narnia”. Because this movie has such a hold on me, I love it so much. Next is “Titanic”! A dear love to me, used to watch it at least once a week and could probably still quote it. Then we have, “Untamed Heart”. Something I watched with my mom once and became obsessed. Heads up it’s a little weird though.

Next three are “Spider-man Homecoming”, “Twilight: Eclipse” and the original 1950s “Cinderella”. Spiderman is my favorite marvel superhero and I love the new MCU movies. All three so far are amazing but I’ll give this slot to the first. Twilight is one of my favorite series’ and eclipse just happens to be my favorite. Though all 5 are incredible. And Cinderella because it was my favorite Disney princess growing up.

The last three are “The Breakfast Club”, “Hairspray”, and “Om Shanti Om”. The breakfast club because duh, it’s a freaking classic. Hairspray is my favorite musical (which I would love to see live one day). And I listen to ‘I can hear the bells’ quite often cause I love singing along. And lastly I had to include a foreign movie. I was stuck between this and “three idiots” but ultimately chose Om Shanti Om because of the nostalgia it has for me.

Toy Story 3, Uri: The Surgical Strike, Train to Busan

Yes I know most of my favourite movies are literally for kids but these are the ones i could rewatch a thousand times more even if i grew old.

Frozen is probably a movie no other could compete with its got a special place in my heart for its amazing plot and the amount of times it can get me to cry despite having watched it so many times already. Its just too perfect in every single way possible. Same goes for Coco and Boss Baby I really teared up a lot all the three movies are just so endearing.

Toy Story 3 and Zootopia just have the craziest plot lines which I can never get over no matter how many times i rewatch them. As for minions, even though its more of comedy they managed to fit in a really good plot to it balancing all the other emotions too.

Train to Busan really needs a special trophy because no other movie made me cry as much as this one did it really silenced me the character development of Gong Yoo was just so great!

Uri and Dangal are two of the 5 bollywood movies ive bothered watching and oh.my.god they are such masterpieces. dangal has every emotion in the exact amount and its such an inspiring movie its a must watch for everyone. i really wanted to add captain marvel and bajrangi bhaijan too but 9 spots were pretty tight.
