i feel like alot of people don't seem to understand that when people online are like ""I want a movie where the man cries" or "I want an anime where they don't sexualize little girls" they don't actually base weather or not they want to watch a piece of media on "does this have a trope i like/don't like". they just want the media they already like to have not have that shitty trope. when somebody complains about common tropes in shonen anime and you are like "well maybe you should stop watching shonen anime" it's like no they actually do like one piece they just don't like the occasional transmisogyny that sometimes comes with it.

like yeah i guess if i wanted to watch media that is not bad, i could watch media that's really good, but alot of media that's really good doesn't have the elements that i enjoy from media that is bad, so you see the issue here?

like i suppose if i don't enjoy the homophobia in persona 5 i COULD just watch downtown abbey but i don't think it has quite the kind of gameplay and visuals that i enjoy in persona 😔

Skk shippers who think chuuya is gullible and dumb missed the entire part about Chuuya figuring out Dazai's entire game plan multiple times, solving the case in 15 soon after Dazai, immediately figuring out Murase's connection to the Arahabaki project via context cues, ran a successful and thriving gems trade business, makes excellent battle strategies on the go, fooled a world class assassin and has a shockingly good understanding of complex physics concepts at 16 for a kid who has no memory of anything prior to a handful of years or any formal education cause he grew up on the streets till 15.

I look at it this way: Chuuya is far smarter then most others because he is the only one capable of almost instantly reading Dazai's motives AND knowing exactly what he himself(Chuuya) has to do next per motives.

i am a firm believer in the sicko4sicko relationship. characters who are obsessed with one another not in spite of, but because of, whatever bizzare or offputting or unusual things they've got going on. guys who look at each other and go "you're the only motherfucker in this city that can handle me" and they're probably right too. rivalries romances obsessions built on mutual hate undefined Close Companions. any sort of Thing. sicko4sicko.

My issues with SKK

To be clear, Dazai and Chuuya's dynamic is one of my favourite in the whole series and I can see how much stuff there is to support it and why its so interesting for so many people. They have such a deep and complex bond which changes so much over the course of their time together, Dazai is clearly obsessed with Chuuya, and Chuuya clearly cares for Dazai BUT

What I don't like is how much it overshadows Dazai and Chuuya as their own characters, so many people try to pretend that Dazai and Chuuya are completely dependent on each other and that they are the only thing the other cares about, when this is just not true! For me the most frustrating thing is when people actively pretend Odasaku doesn't exist so they can make Chuuya the sole or biggest influence on Dazai in the Mafai, Taking the only person who ever truly understood Dazai, and who shaped him for the rest of his life, and pretending he never existed. But equally, I've lost count of how many fics ive read where Chuuya never has a single non Dazai related thought, where all of his incredible character and unique story is pushed aside to only focus on how he feels about Dazai.

Ultimately, this is not meant to shame anyone for shipping them, or too stop people writing them however they want to, this is just me venting about my frustrations with with how people reduce these characters that mean a lot too me to such shallow versions of themselves.
