A Space for Aspiring Filmmakers and Movie Enthusiasts

🎬Blog Introduction🎬

This is just a space I created for aspiring Black filmmakers or media enthusiasts where we can all interact and learn from one another. Even if you aren’t an aspiring filmmaker, you can still learn more about the field and hold discussions here

The purpose for this blog is to provide a space for Black people to share insight in the movie/tv industry, vent out frustrations with how media handles the image of the Black people, and share some filmmaking tips for those who may be interested to start out

Rules:
  • You don’t need to be Black as a requirement to interact with this blog but if I see any nonBlack people clown around I will call you out and block
  • DNI: Terfs/(Neo)nazis/MAPs/noMAPs/Anti-Antis/Pro-shippers/Anti-Sjw/Exclusionists
  • No hate speech of marginalized groups(I shouldn’t have to point this out but a lot of y’all are bold)
  • Don't go derailing some of these posts made by Black people talking specifically about Black-related issues. I'll call that out too
  • “nb ppl don’t interact”=non black ppl don’t interact. Sometimes I’ll forget to include this in the tags, but generally if a post contains slurs pertaining to Black people, or if it’s a serious discussion only for Black people to talk about amongst each other, don’t interact with the post if you aren’t Black
Extra Notes:
  • My main blog is @afrophunk so if I do reply to your comment under a post, it may be through this account
  • I might also make a separate post all together just to display and reply to your comment
  • Yes, we discuss about fandom spaces here as well. If it’s a way to interact with media, we’ll most likely cover it
  • Expect there to be arguments and hate thrown at this blog(yall know why)
  • Expect me to clown on White folks a lot here
  • Expect me to call out antiblackness from any group in general
  • No, you being Black/Black-mixed will not stop me from calling out the antiblackness and bigotry you set out(you know who you are)
  • Now if I mess up on something myself, feel free to correct me but don't be rude about it

Made it to my goal! 🎉

Is tumblr just putting random posts under "mature warning" for yall?

this was like genuinely years ago On Here which is like 70 years in normal people time but I have never ever ever ever stopped thinking about when there was a post on my dash that just said something to the effect of "when's the last time you read a book by a Black woman?" and the notes were just. absolutely festering with people old enough to be on god's green internet openly admitting that they genuinely weren't sure if they had read a book by a Black women literally ever in their entire lives. and I think about that just constantly because it really is evident in the greater tumblrina culture.

usually they don't write the race of the author next to their name on the book. or gender for that matter. and even if they did, i wouldn't read any of those, since i already don't read the name. i genuinely have no idea who any of the people who wrote the books i read are. i like what they did. with the books. but i don't know what their names are.

that's really cool, definitely something to be proud of

Reading the comments has me vaguely puzzled. I really wasn’t aware that one could only get a good grade as a decent person and reader by compiling a list of every gender and race and systematically checking the box as you go down the list. Forget what you like, forget your comfort reads you must make sure you have fulfilled the list. Telling people that if they’re not fulfilling an expansive enough list they aren’t good readers or decent people is a sure fire way to make them stop reading.

Also since I know I’m going to hear a screech of racist my favorite current books are The Pillowbook of Sei Shonagon and Fatima Mernessi’s Dreams of Trespass am I getting a good enough grade?

People will point out the world's most obvious facts about Black people's art being sidelined in the broader cultural landscape in ways non-Black people might not even notice unless they're actively searching for it and then the world's loudest dipshits will go "☝️ Is anybody gonna write an essay about how that's not my fault specifically and I'm not a bad person please please don't think I'm a bad person" and not wait for a response

lot of ppl talking abt “oh it’s the glitch” or “it could be automod”

1. is it not indicative of the culture of the team running the site that quickest explanation for this was transmisogynoir? they are KNOWN for doing this to trans women and black people, both of these descriptors apply to ivy.

2. automod spam report bans don’t do shit against nazi or terf blogs. so if it DID work against a black trans woman’s blog then that’s still indicative of the issues with how the site is run. don’t try to excuse this bullshit

“i don’t wanna excuse tumblr, but” then don’t! then fucking don’t!!

palestinians under genocide should not have to audition for people’s empathy, yet this is what they have to do in order to receive any attention. fundraisers have been moving very slowly bc attention is waning.

this is true for eyad’s campaign as well, even though he tells me every day the conditions that he and his family have to endure.

i don’t know what else i can say to grab and sustain people’s attention. i just hope you donate to eyad’s campaign and share it if you cannot.

the last donation was 21 hours ago. please share and donate if you can.

3,130 / 20,000 USD

tagging for reach:

Tagging a few ppl below for visibility. Apologies if you've been tagged multiple times!

Ao3 campaign filling up in a blink of an eye is a joke

At this point making fun of it feels bad. Idk who are donating. But you people have money for your fic website but have no money for human lives.

Could cry you know. I could cry and I do feel like crying but uh. What's the point? I am just speechless that people can donate and reach $75000 in a day on a scam but when requested to donate to a fundraiser, a huge portion of fandom bloggers will accuse the families of being scammers and bots.

Requesting people that if you are reblogging the post, consider sharing my friend's fundraiser. It has been five days since he has been able to buy food for his family of 24.

PLEASE dont forget the incredibly racialised aspect of transmisogynistic murders and violence i am begging yall to not forget the incredibly racialised aspect of transmisogynistic muders and violence. the trans women being murdered are most often black women! they are often sex workers! the murder problem exists at an intersection of yes transphobia and misogyny, but also racism and classism! transmisogynoir is a violent killer! PLEASE im begging yall to not forget the racialised nature of transmisogynistic murders and violence!!!

in addition, black people, obviously, are the most likely to face police violence and false imprisonment. sex workers even more so. black women in general are a historically degendered class. black people are more likely to be impoverished. black people are more likely to be discriminated against in so many aspects of life. black people are the first to get hurt and black people are the last to get listened to. remember to fight for black trans women when you are fighting for trans women.

Black Character Design Poll: Event Rules

I am an avid lover of graphs. I like numbers, I like trends and the absence thereof. I like the mindsets that make people make decisions, I like recognizing the biases, both conscious and unconscious, in sampled populations. I like how you'll always gain some sort of answer, even if it's not the one you expected (it's the scientist in me)! Best of all, I like making people question themselves! So... Why not a poll?

This is going to be a TWO-PART event. The first portion is going to ask the First Question, starting Sunday April 13th and I will stop taking submissions Saturday April 19th. The second portion is going to ask the Second Question, starting Sunday April 20th, and I will stop taking submissions Saturday April 26th.

See below the cut to find out all the details!

The Questions and the Voting Rubric

Tried to make this as simple as possible! Check under the cut for more details!

Not a question so I hope you don’t mind - I’ve played through South of Midnight twice and it’s a fantastic and beautiful game that I can’t recommend enough, especially to other Black gamers. However, I would like to give a heads up that the game heavily focuses on themes of grief and might be triggering for those affected by child loss and child death!

Ohh that's so sad... I can believe that, though. It does have Southern Black Gothic elements to it, and those can be very emotional. Thank you for the warning!
