Ok this is a hill I will die on
Imperial was made for a different reason than metric!!!
Most people sitting on one or another is judging a fish for it’s ability to climb a tree
Made to be used day-to-day
Need to know how big a big thing (like furniture) needs to be
Use feet!! Its about the length of a forearm (easy to estimate with avalable tools) For more specificity it is devided into smaller units called inches,(about the distance between the middle knuckles of your pointer finger)
There are 12 of these inches so it will be more often a whole number
A third of a foot? 4 in. Half a foot? 6in. Quarter? Sixth? All whole numbers
Do ou need to be more specific? DEVIDE IT! fractions are so much easier to use in a practical context than decimals. Especially with limited tools or mathematical knowledge
There’s no more specific because nobody needs to be!! No table or wooden toy or house needs to be in tolerances tighter than 1/16 of an inch
I’m watching wgi nationals rn so I don’t wanna make this too long but volume, temperature, etc are in units that are practical without large amounts of math
(Cups and stuff are great for baking and Fahrenheit is just kinda how hot it is 0%hot 80%hot etc)
Great for math and science
Uses decimals because it is easier to understand when super small
Devides by 10, useful for math in a base ten number system
Generally has a base in water making it easier to convert between stuff
And if you think one’s bad you don’t understand it which is not a me problem and does not make people who use the other weird, dumb, or otherwise bad or inferior
