Politics, Philosophy, and Religion from a progressive and liberal Lay-Theravadin perspective. I'm also autistic, I guess. Pro-Religious Tolerance, International Organizations (EU/NATO), prioritizing peacemaking, Animal Welfare and Liberation, and pro-being kind to bad people. Pro-Jewish AND Pro-Palestinian.

As always, if you think something I've said is missing information, or I have a bad take, especially if I'm talking about a group you're a member of, please feel free to respectfully let me know.

I don't think I've had any misses recently, but I want to make sure that if I do, I get the opportunity to learn from it.

I feel like the president might be intentionally trying to create a recession.

Netanyahu's continuing escalation of this conflict is unacceptable.

The destruction of civilian infrastructure, lack of regard for the lives of civilians, and the efforts to clamp down on the movement of Palestinians reflects a commitment to doing whatever he can to prevent a future where Israelis and Palestinians can coexist.

The ceasefire was broken for his benefit. Demagogue.

And it's so important to be telling the truth about this right now.

And though the use of this word is hotly debated - I do think his actions, and the actions and rhetoric of people close to him, reflect a genocidal ambition.

People point to the presence of Palestinians in Israel as a way of shutting this down, but I don't think that's a very good approach. Harming Palestinian nationals with impunity, seeking their displacement, and using anti-Arab rhetoric reflects his intentions.

People say that it's a war and not a genocide, that there's a difference, which is certainly true. And I am not qualified to speak with authority on what is and is not a genocide - but we have to be willing to admit when actions go beyond the typical scope of warfare, and into a deepening of this conflict, with the aim of dehumanizing others.

And it's fucking terrifying how the movement which should be advocating for these people transformed into a movement which gleefully engages in dehumanization and antisemitism.

And it's sick how October 7th looms over this conflict, and how people have decided to provide excuses, instead of condemning violence regardless of the source.

All people deserve peace and coexistence, but it seems that nobody in power is working towards that goal.

Itโ€™s exhausting, yโ€™know? The constant antisemitism barrage.

My spouse and I had to sit down and talk about what I need to do in the event our synagogue is attacked. Why? Because unlike the last time we had this talk (after the Tree of Life shooting), my spouse is now disabled. He often requires mobility aids, a walker or a wheelchair, to get from place to place. He canโ€™t move easily or quickly.

He wanted to make it clear that my job, and my only job, is to get our kid safe if something happens. My job is to leave him behind, if need be, to protect our kid. I promised to do so.

How many of you gentile folks out there have had to have this discussion? This real talk moment where it is determined in advance what you will do if a building you are in multiple times a week - that you take your family to multiple times a week - is under armed attack.

Do you have to sit there and wonder when you go to church, or DnD, or book club, if youโ€™re going to have to leave your spouse behind to die? Or your friends? If you will panic, and instead itโ€™ll be your name in the paper?

Do you have to do threat assessments before you go about your weekly activities?

We do. Thatโ€™s what itโ€™s like for us these days.

Donโ€™t tell me that antisemitism isnโ€™t a real issue, that itโ€™s spread after 2016 and since 10/7 isnโ€™t a genuine problem. Because youโ€™re not living the lives Jews are in the wake of those things. This is our life right now. Andโ€ฆit sucks.

How do Jewish converts know they're supposed to convert?

Do they feel a calling, like Catholic priests describe?

What are the requirements?

I'd just like to clarify some things about Senator Cory Booker's marathon Senate speech in protest of the present administration and everything they are doing to the American people.

Senator Booker was NOT allowed to sit down, eat, or use the bathroom during his speech. Sitting or leaving the room to use the bathroom would be considered yielding the floor. Eating would have interfered with his speaking and the person who has the senate floor must continue to speak, except when listening to questions that they will then answer.

He only took occasional sips of water.

The person who previously held the record for longest speech on the Senate floor did have bathroom breaks and also did things like read from the encyclopedia.

Senator Booker did not do that. His speech was to point out the damage that this administration is doing and he stayed on that subject.

Senator Booker's speech did reach many people. It wasn't a silly stunt that was done so that he could take the record for longest speech. He wanted to show the country that democrats will do something to bring attention to the problems we are facing. That democrats are listening to them.

Senator Cory Booker spoke for 25 hours and 4 minutes to "make good trouble."

It's funny watching elon and hasan crash out over each other.

They're fighting can essentially be boiled down "noooooo you're antisemitic" and it's just childish.

Like calm down you can both be antisemites. You can share the antisemitism, sharing is caring.

On a more serious note, it is funny watching two sides of the same coin fight over whose more antisemitic. Like they're both antisemitic in their own left wing and right wing way

"Why does Group A deserve human rights if Group B doesn't have them?"

Both groups deserve human rights. That's how human rights work.

Anyone who convinces you to barter one group's rights against another is not interested in giving them to either group.

If you're following me, what kind of content caused you to follow?

I ask because I'm trying to figure out what kind of things to talk about on here.

There is nothing in this world which is permanent and unchanging - impermanence is characteristic of all things.

When we cling to impermanent things as though they are permanent, including ourselves, suffering will inevitably arise.

Dukkha (suffering) can be overcome through adjusting our lifestyle and thinking. This is the crux of Buddhist practice - ethical living and wholesome thinking. Whatever it is that gets people to live well and think well is righteous, even if it is a religion and philosophy other than Buddhism. Walk the path that you find most effective for you.

You can't kill your way to a better world.

No matter who is killed, no matter why, and no matter what they have done to deserve it, wherever an act of killing has taken place - there has been a miscarriage of justice.

Violence is not the solution, violence is the problem.

Compassion is Universal

I wanted to write more about a pervasive attitude I see in the world. Many people argue in favor of an understanding of goodwill and compassion that excludes certain swaths people for various reasons, most often because they are deemed to be bad people, and therefore do not deserve compassion or goodwill. It seems like almost all people believe this in some way.

Compassion and goodwill are concepts that should be applied universally to all people without exception. This is of extreme importance if we actually are invested in helping others. The foundational axiom of any action designed to help others should be that nobody deserves to suffer. There are a few reasons that compassion as a universally applied intention is preferable, but I think two in particular are important to highlight.

  1. Being compassionate to others has a positive influence on one's own thinking and can prevent one from harming others. Taking a wide and broad pro-compassion stance reduces the risk of harming an undeserving person, because in this conception, there is no such thing as a person deserving of harm.
  2. If we decide that compassion and goodwill should not be extended universally, then it becomes a matter of deciding at what point a person forfeits their claim to compassion. How bad must a person be before they no longer deserve to be loved and respected? How much more bad before they deserve to be harmed? None of us have enough information about the background of others, their reasoning, or the factors influencing their decisions to adequately decide whether or not they are deserving of our goodwill.

it fucking sucks being a disabled person who can't work and having to see these fuckass posts where someone's like "ahaha jobless people have no life and that's why everyone shitty online has No Job" and everyone and their mother reblogs it joyfully onto my dash for me to see. yes unemployed and unemployable people are truly without exception dogshit people with no hobbies and no redeeming qualities. you're so right. anyway if you'll excuse me i have to start my shift at the I'll Never Be Employed Because Of Permanent Disability And I Love Knowing How You Really See Me store

if ur able to work can u reblog this i am seriously SO sick of it.

btw this isn't solely a disability rights issue or an issue about people who are entirely unable to work. you should also be thinking about the people who are regarded as unhireable. transfems are hugely discriminated against in this way, people of color are passed over for less qualified white people, anyone who has any difficulty playing the interview game is less hireable... frankly anyone who made the mistake of pursuing the things they love and now has a degree for a niche field. if you still joke about Jobless People it's because you've fundamentally connected the worth of people to their labor, and specific labor, work that you see as valuable. and while i'm at it stop making fun of people who still live with their parents. asshole.

Communists on this app are really role-playing as members of genocidal regimes for shits and giggles huh?
