hi y’all i just wanted to put you onto this fundraiser for the buffalo nations grasslands alliance. they’re trying to recoup some of the funds for black-footed ferret conservation on tribal grounds that the trump/musk administration has frozen, which is impacting not only the conservation efforts themselves but the livelihoods of the people working on them. the frozen grant is 1.1 million but this fundraiser has a goal of 50,000.

the fundraiser has 24 days left and has only reached 2% of its goal with 11 donations. black-footed ferrets are an endangered lazarus taxon that was thought to be extinct from 1979-1981 before being rediscovered by accident. they’re a miracle of conservation and it would be horrible to lose them for good, not to mention (again) the impact of people working with these animals losing their jobs which is outlined in the fundraiser link. indigenous-led conservation efforts are extremely important for a wide variety of reasons and as someone in the zoology area i feel obligated to share this fundraiser to contribute to those efforts.

i know that things are hard right now and there’s a lot of people and organizations all across the world that need help, so don’t feel pressured BUT if you have extra money and you can contribute to this fundraiser or share it with people who can that would be great.

I think the bug is the inbox INCORRECTLY attributing anons to neighboring, logged-in asks.

Which is still a bad bug! Considering it makes it look like a long-time follower of mine sent me a spam ask.

And is worse if, say, one of these was anon hate.

But it's NOT the anon's real identity. It's a neighboring ask asker's identity

So if you have anon hate in your inbox that looks like it's attributed to your dear friend, who sends you lovely asks all the time, it was Not them.

CONFIRMED THE BUG IS INCORRECT ATTRIBUTION.

So I've been watching this new Watson show occasionally. I'm sort of bummed out by it because I was foolish enough to hope that it would be taking place in the original era and would really be focusing on John Watson as we know and love him. And instead it's set in the here and now which I always hate and he's a neurologist and there's all this stuff going on and it's a bummer. I think the bit that is the weirdest for me is how overwhelmingly heterosexual it is. Holmes once again has knocked up Irene Adler and Mrs. Hudson is some woman that he's having noisy sex with and oh God.

It feels as if the show is just terrified somebody somewhere somehow will think a homosexual thought so they have to banish it with constant heterosexuality.

I mean, I appreciate that all the actors are giving it their best and I think their choice of casting for Moriarty is very interesting and I applaud them for that, but overall it has nothing whatsoever to do with the Sherlock Holmes gestalt. I feel like it should really just be its own thing, but I guess they decided to slap some Sherlock Holmes in there to get a built-in viewership.

A show set in the correct era that really focused on Watson's years without Sherlock Holmes would have been vastly preferable.

Yes, I'm rambling.

Please please someone give me an Edwardian era medical drama with Watson processing his grief for Holmes by solving medical-adjacent mysteries (with Mary is his partner in solving crime/emotional support).

Basically I want Casualty 1909 but with Watson, I don't think that's too much to ask for.

Me, playing Ghost Trick for the first time: *Gets to the Lynne’s apartment section* “Hmmm why is Sissel being so passive aggressive towards Missile does he just not like dogs?”

Me: *Finishes the game* “Ohhh”

ghost trick rules, man.

i could tell you a billion funny lines or moments from the game out of context. i could tell you about the charmingly strange cast and stellar character design. i could tell you about the only buttons being "ghost" and "trick." i could tell you about twists that'd make your jaw drop to the floor, though that wouldn't be very fun to have spoiled.

but you know the realest draw that i rarely see people actually talk about? ghost trick has an incredible mystery!

the game starts with a question that isn't answered until the very end. but along the way, you do learn every single piece of information you'd need to figure it out yourself. the same is true of the smaller mysteries that pop up throughout the game, each of them presenting questions and then solutions that add more clues to your central mystery.

all of the game's logic is self-contained. all the information you need is said right to you - and yet, most often, people playing blind don't realize the answers until a few seconds before they're explained. the game presents you the same scenes over and over, but each time, you learn something new that completely recontextualizes what you've seen. the game will never make fun of you for not getting it, and on the other end of things, it's pretty rare (even on a replay where you know everything!) to feel like "what the hell, why aren't they realizing [x]?!" because generally, if you're able to piece something together, so are the characters, and they'll usually ask for relevant information the first chance they get.

the mystery is absurd, but as i said, perfectly self-contained. probably every single chapter gives you at least one key piece of information about the central mystery, even if you won't always realize it right away. funny throw-away lines have meaning. characters will do things that make you go "huh, i guess that was just for plot convenience" that turn out to have legitimate and relevant reasons of their own. ghost trick is a "don't look anything up before you play" game for many reasons.
