So anyway not to be inexcusably horny on main but um. Do we talk about Eris enough? I fear we do not. Remember how, especially in ACOWAR & ACOSF, SJM makes it a point to remind us Beron is the oldest, longest reigning High Lord? The most cruel one? A threat people have been trying to eliminate for centuries, if not more? Arguably, apart from Rhysand, Beron is the most powerful High Lord in Prythian, and even Rhysand approaches the idea of killing him with caution.

ANYWAY. I was skimming through WAR--

HIS VOICE WAS LOW WITH WARNING jesus christ -- Eris "Sit The Fuck Down" Vanserra vs Beron "Yes Son I'm Sat" Vanserra has got to be one of my favorite scenes in this book. Suddenly I'm remembering Eris is a direct result of two of the canonically most powerful bloodlines in Autumn and I CANNOT be chill about it. We have so many hints in that book that Eris is holding back and waiting for the right moment to strike and I can't help but wonder -- just how much of his power have we seen yet? And then there's this:

I'm going to ignore Azriel's obvious "The only thing I want to be facing is Eris's mattress" agenda for a moment here and focus on another thing -- the entire NC already considers Eris a threat. They already think he's dangerous enough that it's better to have him as their brother's boyfriend an ally than an enemy. Because what happens when he inevitably succeeds in killing Beron and becomes a HL himself? What happens when he no longer has to hide just how powerful he is so that Beron doesn't suspect a thing?

I'm not saying anything that hasn't already been said in this fandom but I never promised to be anything but horny here. I just think Eris "leave it to those who know how to play the game," Eris, who Beron himself is secretly afraid of, needs a little more screen time so I can respond appropriately (bang my head against the wall)

New Elucien headcanon: in an attempt to learn more about his mate's interests, Lucien (who has barely managed to keep himself alive for the past three centuries or so), tells Elain he'd like to help her out in the garden. Elain, absolutely horrified and definitely unwilling to let him anywhere near her months of hard work (HE KEEPS STEPPING ON THE FRESHLY TRIMMED GRASS) (WHY ARE HIS FEET SO FUCKING HUGE), decides on an alternative option. "Take this potted fern, Lucien, I have no space for it in my garden anymore and I just---" *doe eyes mode activated* "--it just really needs a good home. Would you take care of it, please? For me?" Instantly YES. The plant is now to be defended with his life lest he disappoints his mate. He takes it to his Velaris apartment, finds the *best*, most well-lit spot by the window (he is unaware ferns prefer to grow in shade), and waters it at least three times a day (they should be watered once every 5-10 days).

A month later Elain comes over and Lucien's like LOOK. Look how beautifully she is growing. She's doing so well over here-- in fact why don't you move in with me so that you can observe her yourself. No other reason of course.

Elain doesn't have the heart to tell him she gave him a fake plant, but she does move in.

x reader should be (and, generally speaking, often is) the most accepting fanfiction space because its consistently, and almost exclusively an expression or fantasy of being desired or wanted or wanting—or in an even more basic sense, considered. even if you dont explicitly self-insert, even if there’s a an oc thats just you but better or a faceless insert u make - it starts with the same premise. which is wanting to be seen or desired by some extension of who you are. or wanting to fantasize explicitly about a life that isn’t yours, any life but yours. its admitting more openly than other mediums—i want someone to want some part of me. to take interest in me sexually or romantically or platonically. i want this element of myself to be considered or thought of. sometimes that is accomplished through writing, and sometimes that is accomplished through reading and seeking to bits of yourself in other peoples. the other half is having space to want and yearn for something else. how liberating it is to admit that you’d like to be somewhere else.

and it is hardly a flawless medium and im really, really simplifying it but i do think that there is something uniquely enjoyable and freeing about it. i want agency in the stories i love. i want my presence to haunt this fiction like a ghost. i want to be loved, i want to be interesting. i want to experience hundreds of lives that aren’t mine. i want i want i want. this a story of you. this is a story of me.
