Imagine your situationship betrays you, breaks your brothers head, becomes god, crawls back to you saying he’s sorry and he’ll make it up to you, fucking dies before he can make it up to you, then you spend a really long ass time suppressing your emotions AND loosing your father figure so you barely have time to even think about it, then your brother fully has a psychotic break and when you finally think you found someone who can help it turns out that’s your ex-situationship! He’s not actually dead AND he doesn’t remember you and he goes by Emmanuel. And he has a wife which you feel very normal about. You decide to not tell him that he’s an angel and instead decide to vent about your friend Cas who betrayed you and is the reason your brother is crazy. You tell him that you’re usually able to shake these things but Cas’ betrayal is different for reasons we’re not gonna dive into. He tells you that you don’t have to have a reason and that you’re not a machine. He has known you for approximately 30 minutes and is already reading you like a book. Finally, you have to tell him. He gets his memory back by smiting a bunch of demons while an edit plays in his head. He’s devastated by what he did and wants to leave. It’s revealed that you kept his trench coat and have been keeping it in the trunk of your car or I guess taking it through multiple cars. You give him his trench coat. He does the only thing he can do which is transfer the craziness to himself. Your brothers okay and you two decide to leave your him in the psych ward. This happened to my good friend, Dean Winchester.

I’m very fond of the idea that generally, prayers are only heard when they’re made in moments of intense faith and can’t be used for casual communication. but dean actually can use prayer as a one way phone line to cas because he believes in cas so deeply and completely that anything he says becomes holy.

imagine Cas, after spending so much time with the Winchesters, basically smells like them now

So after his first fall as a human (normal animal?) and his homeless arc, the scent is gone and it just bothers Dean so much that he just HAS to fix it

"You don't get it, Sam. He's prey now! Gotta make sure monsters know he's one of us so they don't fuck with him!" Dean says as he basically rubs his entire fur onto Cas who has accepted his fate and has rag-dolled

Sam, having only left the room for two minutes to grab a scented shirt Cas could wear like a normal person "... Yeah man, whatever you say"

Sam comes back later to check on them, only to leave again when Dean starts licking and grooming Cas

okay so the destiel park bench scene is actually insane if you think about it longer than two seconds, and honestly one of the more overlooked early destiel scenes.

because first of all you have cas, right, who’s mr lobotomy but has entered the sequence of the cycle where he’s back to questioning everything again (always right before naomi wipes him) choosing now to trust a human for probably the first time in ever with his doubts and fears. this human who he met torturing souls in hell, who he was praying to to save the town.

insane already.

then you have dean who just got yanked out of a 40yr long torture montage back into this hunting bullshit, this time with divine prophesies and the devil. sam is straight up lying to him and dean knows it. so already that trust is completely broken. and then there’s bobby who dean doesn’t want to burden with everything that happened in hell. so dean just straight up doesn’t have a confident atp.

but then this angel from heaven sits across from him on a park bench, knowing what he did in hell, and decides to confide in him. like dean is not only worthy of that trust but also someone’s who advice is sought after. from the moment cas met him he’s been reading dean to utter filth, but then he turns around and says “you have doubts? i do too. but i prayed that you would make the right choice and you did.”

it’s just such a good moment early on that establishes what their dynamic is going to be from here on out.
