you can forgive a person and still not be friends with them. just because you forgave them doesn’t make you obligated to continue/start over with your friendship. especially if that person has repetitively hurt you or anyone else in any way, its safe to stay away from them; they aren’t healthy for you.
if you’re attached to a person like that, it’ll be tough to leave them. but if they’ve hurt you and made you feel obligated to stay, then that’s a heavy red flag— manipulative abuse, which leads to trauma bonding. it took me a while to gather the courage to confront a certain person before leaving them. and i have a good handful of people to thank for it, too.
so, to anyone struggling with situations like this, just know that you’re not alone. it may even take a while to get over your relationship with that person, and trust me, it’s perfectly normal to grieve that relationship. but the sooner you leave that person, the less likely you are to become more attached to them.
