There is a fat, round, dumb, sinverguenza mouse in my room. There might be two. He is so loud munching away on who knows what, and I nearly caught him but he literally slipped from between my fingers. He watches me watch him and I need him gone.
tiktok stunt haha funny. please talk about the ice raids
even though theyre officially starting on tueaday once trump is in office the raids have already started in central california since sunday and idk where else. people havent been able to go to work becuz ice is literally patroling the streets and targeting places where majority brown people work. please keep aware and talk to ppl in your life who might not be
just to clarify because a lot of ppl reblogged this post
it was border patrol and not technically ice raids that happened in my city but it happened so suddenly there was a lot of confusion. this is just what has happened in my city and nearby, so i don't want to spread misinformation and i can't say what has happened in other places. but it is important to watch for these things regardless. i live in california but i dont live anywhere near the border so border patrol isnt normally seen here!
Donald Trump is threatening to begin his second presidency with a new round of gratuitous violence targeting undocumented families.
In 2017-2018, people around the US blockaded airports, freeways, and ICE facilities. There were school walkouts, demonstrations, and barricades. By fighting back ambitiously, people limited the scope of what ICE could do.
There are things we can do to resist. Let's stand up for each other. 🏴
some of you have GOT to get comfortable with lying and situational morality and i'm not kidding
[ID. A tweet by qephatziel reading, "If you're hiding a friend in your attic, and his mortal enemy comes to the door and asks if he's there, the *question* is a lie. They're really asking, 'can I come in and kill your friend.'
'No' is a completely truthful answer to that question.
A lot of life works like this." End ID]
Hey! This can be incredibly important to immigrants as well. If someone EVER asks whether there are illegal immigrants in the area. No, there aren't. You have to learn to be normal about lying to government officials and other people. Never spread someones immigration status since that puts them at risk.
in los angeles, the historically Black community of altadena has been decimated by the ongoing eaton fire.
afropunk has created a spreadsheet of gofundmes of displaced Black individuals and families affected by the current los angeles fires. the list is constantly being updated.
the mutual aid los angeles network (malan) has put together a spreadsheet with valuable resources for people affected by the ongoing los angeles wildfires and wind storm. the sheet is constantly being updated with resources such as shelter info, animal boarding info, addresses for distribution centers, volunteer opportunities and so much more.
Thinking once again about how inaccessible schools are to poor, disabled students.
My school refuses to accommodate me, and teachers are allowed to refuse my requests to go to the nurse. Nobody is allowed to access the elevators on their own, not even students who require it, so students are forced to be late because staff forgets about them. You also cannot access the elevator unless its specifically stated in your accommodations.
My school refused to even attempt to accommodate me because I did not have a note from a doctor, and when I asked how I do the process of creating a 504 plan they just repeated themselves exasperated. They refused to go into more details and also asked repeatedly if I "Actually need those accommodations at your level?" I get high grades purely because I cannot rest and then have to miss multiple days. My school believes that all students can just up and go to the doctors whenever.
This school also has an awful attendance policy. All absences are counted towards exam exemption even if it is an excused absence. We can only have 3 parent written excuse notes and after that it is counted as an unexcused absence. If you have more than 4 unexcused absences you instantly fail your class even if you had a perfect grade. Not many students can be taken to the doctor every time they get sick so many students come to school while very sick and spread it around.
Teachers also are allowed to limit when you can go to the nurse or bathroom unless you have a "very specific note" and I have been counted tardy and refused multiple times even when I have to get to the nurse, leg dragging from pain. I have had two teachers who absolutely refuse to even entertain accommodating me or even letting me do stuff slightly different to accommodate myself.
I cannot handwrite essays especially not when they are over 500 words and not all at once. I attempted to make a draft on my computer and then planned to transfer it to paper later and my teacher shut my computer and watched as I struggled to write.
Schools were not made for disabled students, our school has a very small population of any physical disabilities, students in wheelchairs would not be able to access 3/4th of the campus and students from the special ed course are made to clean up the garbage cans.
Schools hate disabled people. Schools kill disabled people. Schools were not made to let disabled people achieve the same as everyone else.
If you can read slang, text speak, algo-speak, historical books etc
Then you can read what a higher level autistic has written. Or a person with ID (Intellectual Disability). A person with a learning disorder etc. or any of the other reasons a person may struggle with clear communication.
You just don't want to because you think they should translate for you.
Your ableism is showing.
Disability in Navigating with You
I wrote a long thread over on twitter about the representation of our protagonist with cerebral palsy / CP over on twitter if you want to read that. https://x.com/jrome58/status/1813569339855187975
Also, I don't blame you if you don't want to. That place is rough these days. Basically, it breaks down to this: I created a cool character with CP as a supporting character in Unstoppable Wasp and through that met a cool reader and writer with CP named Quade Reed. As anybody who has read Unstoppable Wasp can guess, I didn't get to do as much with Taina Miranda as I would have liked so...
When I got the chance to write a romance story in comics, I wanted to include a character with a physical disability, something way too uncommon in both comics and romance stories. So, I created Neesha Sparks, a black teen girl with CP and I brought Quade in to help as an authenticity reader. Let me say now, you can order this book here: https://www.simonandschuster.com/books/Navigating-With-You/Jeremy-Whitley/9781952303609
I brought in some other readers, especially when it came to talking about some of the intersectional areas of Neesha's identity. Throughout the process, one of the biggest things that came up was that disability, when it's portrayed, is frequently portrayed as one thing that has one answer, when it's actually a daily series of challenges and having to explain to people what's going on with your body and why you need what you need in a way that any of us would find intrusive. I said a lot more in the twitter post, but mostly I just want to share some cool art work from this book. So, here is some excerpts from the book about Neesha, Gabby, and disability.
I just read this comic and I can confidently say I absolutely fell in love. As a young queer latina who is disabled it was so refreshing to see a comic with characters like yourself. Even parts that weren't disability or queer centric spoke to me. The scene with Neesha talking about how awkward it is to be with her dad now just absolutely explained how I feel also being a child of divorced parents living with my mom. I love that Neesha is an activist and also does a lot of fabric work. Definitely rambled a lot about Neesha I hope you can tell she's my favorite character
when i say community
i mean staying with the victims of violence until the emts get there
i mean not letting the cops get them alone even though you just met
i mean carrying around extra pain and allergy meds not just for yourself, but in case anyone else needs them too
i mean giving them to anyone regardless of if you actually like them as a person
i mean password sharing and spreading links to your favorite pirating site
i mean helping that stranger set up a workaround for their broken computer
i mean helping them understand the weird ass language in a job application
i mean helping people understanding medical information when their doctors did a bad job
i mean letting someone sleep on your couch so they don't have to go home
i mean checking if people have rides home
i mean "text me so i know youre safe when you get home"
i mean "have you eaten today"
i mean "have you eaten enough today"
i mean "what do you want, i'm buying tonight"
i mean "hey does anyone have experience with this med, my doctor wants to put me on it but i'm not sure"
i mean "here's a zine on going off of psych meds with minimal risk"
i mean "hey you weren't at the show tonight, are you doing ok?"
i mean "i have a spare room if you ever need it"
i mean "i'm here, i promise i'm here"
remember when israel bombed a hospital fourteen months ago they said that they would never do anything like that only to bomb every single hospital in gaza and then target schools and refugee camps and kindergartens and un shelters?
remember how everyone was angry when al shifa hospital was bombed? why are we all silent now when israel is bombing kamal adwan hospital in gaza? where is that anger now? why aren't the events taking place in north gaza on the forefront of your mind?
while we are going about our days, there are multiple massacres taking place in gaza. we are living in comfort while our tax money is being used to bomb children.
are we becoming desensitised to genocide? desensitised to the cruelty the occupation inflicts on gaza every second of every day?
earlier in the genocide, we all came together to help palestinians evacuate. we would do our best to help. now we've simply started tuning out fundraisers. is this what we've come to? ignoring people who are going through a genocide?
i just want people to come together and help my friend alaa. she has two children and needs to feed them and ensure that they're warm in this cruel winter. donate to her fundraiser if you have the means to, share if you can't donate.
two donations in the entire day! please pick up the pace!
no new donations since.
+15 in the last eight hours
no new donations since the last update. let's not go a day without helping alaa make progress in her campaign.
still nothing new. this is extremely disappointing. alaa's four year old has a cold and needs medicine which is very expensive. please help out🙏
