i think all cass fans who love bg2000 should read impulse 1995 and vice versa because they both truly hit the same niche of long running character-focused solos about a deeply isolated teenager who is kind of learning to be a Person for the first time.. and everything is confusing and frustrating and no one is patient with them and the people who are supposed to take care of them fail them over and over again but despite all the hurt and struggle the love IS there and it DOES matter & make a difference even if they can’t truly be Understood in the way they want. and slowly over time they build a community of people who love them when they had never been loved before.
I know what it means to be called a slave. And I will save everyone I can from the same indignity.
I think Rebecca would make the Animus able to run Doom. I think Shaun found out that the Animus runs Doom because people get twitchy when a file on their We Need To Save The World project is titled Doom
Instead of running Ezio's memories Rebecca accidentally runs doom instead and causes desmond even more mental trauma
Or you use a plastic/silicon spatula?? Or a silicon whisk?? go to literally any dollar store they have shitty plastic/silicon kitchen utensils you can scramble eggs with without scratching up your pans
Now that’s what I call
@rpepperpotshipssciencebros please forgive me for this one
mister miracle (volumes 1 & 2 especially) as a story is such a crazy interesting experiment in tone.. like from the status quo of the series you would fully expect him to be some tech genius street level hero akin to many other dc characters. he’s some guy who lives in a quaint suburban town! we see his very normal & domestic daily life! he’s an escape artist who defeats villains with his silly gadgets! its lighthearted, it’s primarily shenanigans, and from the setup of the book & how it functions you would neverrrrr assume that scott free is a godchild from a heaven planet who was given away to hell to prevent a war & has been basically tortured since infancy. there is sooo much dissonance between the simple set dressing of the comic and the cosmic scale of scott’s story/his horrifically traumatic origin. it seems like a weird choice, especially when you look at new gods titles that do lean into the cosmic grandiosity of the scifi genre. mister miracle- excepting moments where new gods drama does barge in and attempt to ruin his life- is NOT a scifi story.
what you have to remember is scott free at his core is a) a guy who loves his wife and b) an escape artist. of course he’s trying to escape the genre he was born into. of course he’s trying to leave that narrative behind. and he, for the most part, succeeds! just not well enough to leave his past behind completely.
So, in my art history class today, my professor was talking about something that is so fuckin awesome.
These are warrior shields from the Wahgi people of Papua New Guinea. The warriors paint them with imagery meant to symbolize animals who have traits they wish to embody in battle. These depictions are intended to give the person using it the powers of what they’re depicting.
Now. Look at this Wahgi shield:
Hmm. That looks a bit different from the others.
That looks VERY different. Why, it looks like
The Phantom… American comic book character by Lee Falk. And that’s because it is.
The Wahgi people were isolated from the rest of the “modern” world until 1933. They came into contact with WWII service men who shared some aspects of western culture with the tribesmen. In particular, they showed them the comic books they read while shipped out. The Wahgi loved them. In particular, the Wahgi adored the stories of the Phantom, who wasn’t even particularly popular in its home of America.
He is so popular that the few Wahgi who can read english will read the comics out loud in the village center and hold out the pages for everyone to see, so the whole tripe can enjoy them and marvel at the Phantom’s might in battle.
They identify with the Phantom because he came from a jungle territory, like them, wore a mask to fight, like them, and came from a long line of warriors, which the Wahgi, who worshiped their ancestors, deeply respected. Further, despite not really having superpowers, the Phantom is strong, clever, and incredibly fast. He was so fast that his enemies began to believe that he was impervious to bullets and could not be killed.
Therefore, the Wahgi began painting HIM on their shields to invoke HIS abilities in battle. There are TONS of Phantom-Wahgi shields out there.
So, you might think that you’re huge comic book fan, but the Wahgi have taken their Phantom fandom to the next level and have made the Phantom a fucking talisman to carry into battle for strength.
they wouldn't leave that man alone about his characters' smoking habits and that's why we ended up with Venom fucking vaping
