hi hello i'm jessi, i'm 34 (what the fuck). i'm an australian living in the states, i'm horribly invested in hbo war. i also reblog other shit a lot. sometimes i make fanmixes and other stuff.

I fucking love Hodgson like you go almost the whole show without really noticing him too much and then he like Shows Up at the end just hunched on his little officer’s stool like an Edward Gorey drawing of a sickly Victorian ghoul sitting apart from everyone else with his little dish and little fork eating his plate of human flesh and then he goes into Goodsir’s tent and delivers this chilling speech out of fucking nowhere, and the great thing about that monologue is that the delivery completely changes the tone, because apart from the very end it’s almost just a nice memory if it weren’t delivered like something you would hear whispered from a locked jack-in-the-box in your childhood nursery.

look at this how is he a person and not like a picture in a book about what happens to children who fake sick to get out of church

one of the things that happens twice in the terror (that i can think of) that makes me go insane with grief is when the circumstances are so dire and perilous and awful that a person who has died can’t even be properly mourned- i’m mainly think of graham and jirv

graham’s entire death was entirely overshadowed by what happened to franklin shortly after. and i don’t doubt that he was mourned but when they show his name just fucking crossed out when crozier is giving franklin’s eulogy it just guts me (no pun intended haha unless..). and it’s like there are so many Circumstances surrounding graham’s death too, the introduction of tuunbaq, silna’s father’s death, the first death on the expedition that wasn’t due to illness or general seafaring stuff, etc. that his actual death just kinda fades into the background. the most we see of people grieving him is franklin in his room while they operate on silna’s father and then he and fitzjames’s misplaced anger at goodsir and silna’s father when goodsir is trying to save his life.

then when jirv gets murdered the discovery of the truth of his death and its implications is so fraught with tension and stress (trying to quell a mutiny while also not having a clue who all is involved in it besides a few people) is so urgent and terrifying that it takes precedent over the actual act of mourning irving. like sure we can see in hodgson’s face and actions and especially ned’s face how devastated they are but it is never voiced by them or by anyone because they have no choice but to respond to the current situation as quickly and routinely as possible. like did jirv even get buried? was he burned with the rest of the men who were killed by tuunbaq?

it just makes me so sad for graham and for jirv and everyone who didn’t have time to mourn them the way they all deserved

Edward Little physical description

Posting my best find first because some of you have been wanting to know about this: I've found a description of Edward Little when he was a mate aboard HMS Scylla in 1837, just before joining the HMS Donegal as a lieutenant

At the time, he was 24, 5'9 tall with a fair complexion, hazel eyes and brown hair, with no visible scar, mark or wound

From a description book joined to HMS Scylla muster - ADM 37/9921

I'm losing my mind. So they're born on the same day and are both 5'9"?? If people doing research on Edward Little start disappearing soon we know we're on to something....

hunter meets hunter

(In RDR2, Arthur Morgan has a Compendium that, among other information, tells him the best weapon to use when hunting, and he can use the binoculars to study things to get Compendium entries.)
