mandatory house fandom viewing!
wish there was a non rude way to be like “I understand your criticism, I don’t even necessarily disagree with it, but I am doing these things on purpose, because I like them and I want to, and therefore your opinion has no value, because you might think me painting a room entirely pink is tacky, but I did it on purpose”
not to drop a nuclear level discourse bomb before i log off for the night but. i've noticed that none of you have submitted anything foreman-related since i started this blog and so this is my request. start sending in your foreman art, fics, and headcanons or face the wrath of my mixed race laser beams. thanks
I (submitter) took this screenshot forever ago and posted it on my own blog (@/lordhavemercyyyyy if you wanna say hi) but this is too funny not to share
So my mom watches House, which means to me it’s a very non-fandom-supporting show. The kind of show people on tumblr generally don’t latch on to. It’s strange to me how big of a fan base it has on here, so I was wondering if you knew how the house fandom became a thing. Like, when did it become popular? How did this happen? I find it really interesting.
the answer is that those accounts that post tv and movie clips on tiktok and youtube shorts posted a lot of house starting around early 2023 (maybe earlier, but that's when i started seeing it), which exposed the show to a lot more young people who weren't around for house's original tv run. to anyone who may be making a 5 hour video retrospective on the show, start here.
but also, procedurals have fandoms all the time. i have a friend who's literally obsessed with the show 911, even though it's the sort of thing I'd imagine my stepdad having on full blast in the background at sunday dinner. i'm pretty sure there's law & order fanfiction. there is toxic yaoi everywhere for those with the eyes to see.
it's amazing how many times you have to tap the sign because people want to tell you how to run your own blog
don't get me wrong, i love running this blog and i love the people who take the time to message me, but i feel like if you're getting mad that i don't post to your specific preference based on your interpretation of my username... it may be time to log out of tumblr and like, watch a monterey bay aquarium livestream to cool down.
So I know you’ve seen more House discourse than, like, anyone but I was wondering if there’s opinions or views on how House would have changed if it was on like HBO or something. Like, I’ve seen people talking about whether House would use slurs and the answer is he can’t use the hard ones or even make too explicit of sex jokes cause he’s on cable. He was on more adult time cable but still cable. So, like, is there a popular opinion on how much of his inappropriateness was held back by cable tv rules? It’s super interesting to looked between fanfiction where house can say fuck and the actual show where they censor stuff (I know cable doesn’t have censor regulations in the US like movies but they self censor and add warnings for advertisers and such)
This is a really interesting hypothetical! I definitely think that House would swear more often and perhaps have even more vulgar jokes, but there's a fine line between raunchy humor and poor taste.
Hugh Laurie has an extremely dry (read: British) sense of humor so I don't know if making House's jokes more explicit actually works. The sarcastic, network television-friendly innuendos are also kinda part of House's character. He's an extremely clever man, and I imagine he chooses his jokes carefully to just barely skirt the rules without getting HR involved.
If anything, I think the medical stuff would've been much more explicit if House was on HBO. More surgeries, more genitals, more blood. It sort of reminds me of Hannibal, which I think would've had even more gore if it was on streaming instead of NBC, lmao.
if u take fic submissions..... would u mind if ppl were to send in their own fics? 👉👈
i can't promise to read every submitted fic (except for the tags!) but i will generally post any fic people submit to me! send your own, send your mutuals', send your grandma's, i don't care. i'm just happy you guys know how to read.
If one more person goes “That’s not heritage mimimi” I will scream. Just be happy. Just be amazed by how this shows community is just as screwed up mentally as the show characters.
not to get all discourse-y about it but i feel like people get way too pedantic about "heritage posts" like im not someone who spends an hour a day on tumblr at the absolute maximum running a fanblog for a mid-2000s medical procedural drama. it truly is not that serious i fear
