Some posts here may have attached DNIs that the archiver doesn’t endorse/agree with/understand used terms.

Welcome to @interarchive! This is a blog made to catalogue Intersex term coinings and similar posts.

( For combo, “aesthetic”, and similar Intersex flags, check out @intersexflags! )

The mod uses no pronouns ( please use my url or one of my nicknames, Bug, instead! ) and is an Intersex Bigenderflux (Intergender + Interagender) Abro Aspec! I am bodily an adult. My variation gives me chronic health issues so I may not be super active all the time.

If you have questions about Intersex variations or just want to know more about Intersex individuals in general, here is a link to the InterACT website and here is a link to the InterACT glossary of Intersex variations! You should also check out @intersex-support!

( Please do not send me "am I intersex if?" asks, see above! )

Do not pry about others medical info and do not start pointless discourse (especially about flags or the validity of "microlabels". you are still welcome to use my blogs as a resource but i may block you). I support my queer siblings with "complex" identities and all of my Aspec siblings as well.

( Please fully spell out any tone indicators with me, like so "(joking)". Shorter acronyms like tone tags are often hard for me to process! )

Flags or content made by others who are bigots, intersexist, or anything similar will be archived through non-direct interaction for the comfort of those who follow this blog. More about that here <3

( including any who believe you can "transition" to being Intersex; please check out Aldernic or even Altersex/Alteradic terms )

Mullwolf / Wolfmull

Mullerian + Wolffian flag and symbol as well as two combo terms. Intended for intersex people who would find the term useful for whatever reason ( hence the purple stripes. )

Made by combining the Mullerian and Wolffian flags and symbols from here. I have another alternative symbol somewhere but I can't find it right now. When I do i'll post it separately and link it here.

Here are the plain symbols for repositioning or use elsewhere. in order: with outline and plain black.

Made on request for anon but free for anyone to use anywhere. This was in my drafts for a few months and I'm very low energy so if there are any formatting, spelling, or other mistakes / inaccuracies I apologize. ( Coiner is intersex. )

No strange comments or arguments please. I really don't have the brain power at the moment, i'm just going to delete it and block. Thank you for understanding.

INTER(SEX)GAMER | INTERGENGAMER | TRANSINTER(SEX)GAMER | DUOGENGAMER | EXTERGENGAMER

[pt: inter(sex)gamer, intergengamer, transinter(sex)gamer, duogengamer, extergengamer. /end pt]

— a gender where one is intersex/intergender/transintersex/duogender/extergender and a gamer, or some combination of gamer and intersex/intergender/transintersex/duogender/extergender in any way. transintersex in this context refers to intersex folks who are also transgender, and not the transid. all of these are intersex exclusive. any of the names of the flags can be shortened or extended based on preference (extergamer instead of extergengamer).

— I've noticed a serious lack of intersex-related flags within gender systems. I don't think this is necessarily (always) out of malice or exclusion, as some people aren't comfortable making flags outside of their own experiences. if you're intersex and want a flag in a gender system for your intersex-related identity, you are absolutely welcome to request one, as long as it doesn't break my request rules.

— part of a bunch of flags I'm making for intersex-specific identities in various gender systems as I noticed a lack of them.

— apart of a bunch of flags I'm making for intersex-related identities within gender systems. if flags for some of these terms already exist consider these alt flags

— a gender in the gendercannibal system related to being intersex/intergender/transintersex/duogender/extergender and a cannibal, being an intersex/intergender/transintersex/duogender/extergender cannibal, etc. transintersex here means trans and intersex, not the transid. all of these are intersex exclusive.

— I hope this goes without saying, but I am against real-life harm of real people. these flags are not meant to encourage or romanticize said harm against real people. also, if you use these flags as a perisex person to perpetuate harmful stereotypes about intersex people, I hate you (these flags are, as previously stated, exclusive to intersex folks).

Does anybody here know how the Chinese intersex community views perisex usage of the term yinyang ren (陰陽人) as a cultural gender?

All the intersex sources I've found on the term describe yinyang ren as either just a term for intersex, or as a reclaimed slur for intersex.

The old website of OII-Chinese, as quoted by @whimsy-flags, described it as:

“[Yinyang ren] are people whose physical gender cannot be clearly classified as male or female… Yin and Yang people do not mean people who deliberately choose to change their physiological characteristics.” (emphasis mine)

Yet I've also found a handful of sources from the perisex non-binary community that seem to view the term as a "third gender" for androgynous/bigender people, that oh just so happens to also sometimes include intersex people. I've noticed the sources that seem to be doing this are either members of the Chinese diaspora or just... not Chinese? 🤔

(edit to add: Chinese Wikipedia's entry for 陰陽人 is just a redirect to the entry on intersex/sex, and Wiktionary also indicates it's a word for intersex).

As an outsider it looks to me like the issue of perisex enbies being insensitive and thinking it's okay if they call themselves the h-word, combined with the issue of Global North wishful thinking about cultural genders. 😕

But I'm not Chinese, it's not my culture. I could be missing important context! I'd like to know if I'm reading this situation correctly or if I'm missing something. Thanks! 💜

RGAB means Reassigned Gender After Birth

This refers to the experience of an intersex person having their gender scrutinized (usually in early childhood but sometimes at puberty), and ultimately reassigned socially and often medically. This is done due to the intersex person's original AGAB having been determined to be more difficult to impose due to their body. This is a form of ISIG (Inconsistent Societally Imposed Gender).

Examples:

AFAB-RMAB refers to an intersex person assigned female at birth, but reassigned male after birth. A reason for this may be due to a child who had a vulva at birth later being found to have testicles, XY chromosomes, undergoing testosterone-dominant puberty, and experiencing masculinizing of their genitalia, such as significant growth of the genital tubercle (clitoris), to the point it could be classified as a clitorophallus or phallus, etc. Due to this, it would be determined to be "more accurate" or "easier" to reclassify the individual as male.
UAB‐RFAB / UAB-RMAB refers to an intersex person not assigned at birth but assigned female or male after birth. A reason an intersex person may be unassigned at birth is having ambiguous genitalia, or a lack of external genitalia. Sex determination in this case is generally based on sex characteristics which require further testing to observe combined with the biases of the parents and doctors. The vast majority of intersex people UAB will experience RGAB.
AMAB-RFAB refers to an intersex person assigned male at birth, but reassigned female after birth. A reason this may be due to a child having a large genital tubercle structure that could be classified as a phallus. The child may later be found to have XX chromosomes, a uterus, small or closed vaginal opening, go through estrogen-dominant puberty, etc. Due to this, it would be determined to be "more accurate" or "easier" to reclassify the individual as female.

This is not an acronym for voluntary gender reassignment gotten by trans people. Do not misuse intersex terminology.

LEECH

a term for an intersex person who feels outcasted, unwanted and isolated from society as a whole, including queer spaces

(MORE INFO UNDER THE CUT)

( archived from under the cut )

MEANING: leeches are often seen as threatening parasites who do nothing but take. they are unusual, gross and dangerous. intersex people are threats to cishet society due to not neatly fitting into a binary, and are seen as threats to the queer community for having experiences aren’t easily understood by perisex people. it’s easy for an intersex person to feel like they’re leeching off of the community because of this.

also leeches are cosexual, which was a happy coincidence

COLOR MEANINGS:

GREEN: greed. many unfortunately view intersex people as greedy losers forcing their way into the LGBTQIA+ community

GREEN-BLUE: ambiguity, in between. this one’s pretty self explanatory, i think

BLUE: water, lakes, ect. where leeches reside. i also know many intersex people who use sea creatures as a symbol of intersexuality

GREY-BLUE: loneliness. intersex people are often very isolated, to the point where any intersex community you find online has at least a few people you’ve met in another

TEAL: cold. leeches feed off of blood, and blood loss is known for making the victim feel cold. ehlers-danlos syndrome, a disability that’s common among intersex people, can cause issues when regulating body temperature

this can also be a descriptive term! if being reminded of the isolation of being intersex is too much, this term can also refer to an intersex person who feels a deep, emotional connection to disturbing media/fiction! whether it be learning about it or consuming it outright

some examples include: gross horror movies, splatterpunk novels, wendigoon/iceberg videos, and videos/documentaries about the deep/dark web

Congenital Primary Hypogonadism, and Congenital Secondary Hypogonadism flags

Acquired /Non-congenital Primary Hypogonadism, and Acquired /Non-congenital Secondary Hypogonadism flags

Congenital Hypogonadism is hypogonadism that is present from birth, though it is often not noticeable before the start of puberty. Acquired /Non-congenital Hypogonadism is hypogonadism caused by something later in life, such by diseases, injury, or medication, it is also just a standard part of aging after a certain point.

Congenital Hypogonadism is often considered an intersex variation, Acquired /Non-congenital Hypogonadism is not considered one.

Maned Lioness and Maneless Lion pride flags

Pride flags for anyone who identifies as, or with the concept of a maned lioness or a maneless lion, for any reason, including But Not Limited To: being intersex, gender nonconforming, trans in any way (and of any gender), or alterhuman/otherkin!

The colors were picked from photos of real lions and lionesses, and are completely symmetrical to represent how there's no "wrong way" to be a maned lioness or a maneless lion. There is no gender requirement for either flag.

Other people with completely different genders to you might identify as the same one as you, and this is a good thing. Have pride in your community. There is no wrong way to be a maneless lion or maned lioness. There is no gender requirement or policing.

Insert pride puns here.

These pride flags and icons are Public Domain, meaning there is no copyright on them, and you can do Literally Anything you want with them, at all. (Because there's no point in making a "pride flag" if no one is allowed to actually use it as a pride flag)

[ID: Three versions of two pride flags, both with seven horizontal and symetrical stripes, with the top, bottom, and center stripes being the same color. The first is the Maned Lioness pride flag, with stripes of: Black, tan, light brown, black, light brown, tan, and black. The first version of the flag has a white icon of a maned lionness in the center, with a spiky mane. The second version has just the stripes. The first version is the icon against a white background, with the flag stripes inside the lines of the icon itself. The second flag is the Maneless Lion pride flag, with stripes of: very soft gold, tan, light brown, soft gold, light brown, tan, and soft gold. The first version of the flag has the head of a maneless lion in the center in white. The second version has just the stripes, and the last version is the icon itself against a black background, with the stripes inside the icon. End ID.]

All of these images are archived on the Internet Archive. This post will be saved to the Wayback Machine as soon as it is posted. You are encouraged to download and share these anywhere and everywhere you want. Just please include the relevant sections of the image description for accessibility.

Again. Cannot stress this enough. There are no gender requirements for either of these terms.

You might identify with the same term here as a woman, or a man, or a nonbinary person. This is not a bad thing. This is fantastic. Celebrate your shared pride and have joy in your community.

Protect everyone around you just as strongly as lions defend members of their own prides, no matter the differences between you, whether you're a maned lioness or a maneless lion, or neither, or something in between.

Bare your collective teeth at those who want to harm us all.

Gynandromorph Pride Flag

Gynandromorph: an organism having a physical body containing both female and male characteristics; being both gynomorphic and andromorphic.

Similar to hybrid or chimeric(al) classifications, this is common to refer to biological sex among animals, not obtainable in perisex or protosex anthropomorphy/humanity, ovotestis/ovotestes or ovotesticular conditions are intersex bodily variations, referring to mixed gonads, not the entire gynandrous bodies or an individual embodying gynandry as an altersex.

However, it’s been used since the 1970s as a gender term. As a human thing, gynomorph describes effeminacy. Then some researchers abbreviated GAMP(s) (gynandromorphophile(s)) referencing chasers (attracted to “GAM(s)”). So even if this is a slur directed at TMA (transmisogyny afflicted/affected) folk(s) I’m able to reclaim.

I feel anyone can use it for themselves. Useful for gynandromorphic therians and (tri)monoecious phytanthropes. - Ap
