honestly i think a huge part of getting better at creature design is gaining an appreciation for normal boring animals and realizing that they also have evocative "character designs" that are just as good to draw from as tigers or deer or vultures or piranhas or anything else on the whole have deemed more charismatic or interesting looking in some way

No copypasta has ever ruined my life as comprehensively as Hell Fuck Castle. I write tabletop RPGs, and now every time I read a lore blurb about an ancient ruined kingdom where everything was cool until the last ruler fucked it up, my brain whispers "King Big Sad Guy, who did the Flame Thing".

This one?

Famous criminals through the ages.

I need you to PAUSE and LOOK AT THE FACES. Incredible.

Could make bank painting replicas of these with people's cats in them.

What most people think the challenges of polyamory are: jealousy, lack of commitment, insecurity.

What better-informed people think the challenges of polyamory are: calendar management, social stigma.

What the challenges of polyamory actually are: when your husband and your lover bond over classical music, and your lover suggests to your husband that he would really enjoy Stravinsky. And it turns out your husband does really enjoy Stravinsky, but unfortunately with the exception of the opening bit of Firebird, which is OK, you fucking hate Stravinsky. And the background music of your life is Stravinsky for months on end because your husband loves Stravinsky now. So even when the three of you meet up together it turns into Stravinsky Fan Club Time. Plus a third wheel of you.

You ever rediscover a piece of writing from years ago and are suddenly slammed back into the context you wrote it in?

One year when I was an underclassman in high school, we lost two of the seniors in the course of a weekend. One we were told died of complications from mono. The other we were just told that she passed and they weren't giving further details, which we all knew meant suicide. I wasn't close with either of them, but a friend was, and they took it hard. I wrote this to cope, and ten years later, remembering the context, it was so chilling to find again.

She's not quite seventeen, leaning up against the wall with a folded slice of pizza and a cigarette that glows blue. When she takes a pull, the little tube lights up, and you can barely see the little wisps of blue that get sucked into it. When she breathes out it's less like smoke and more like a mushroom cloud. Her rich, dark eyes, swirled like tiger's eye, watch the world, betraying her millennia in this universe. She blows out another breath and takes a bite of her pizza. Mushroom and pepperoni, if you were wondering.
People still think of Death as an old man, a skeleton in dark robes with a scythe and a stallion. They feel that the old die, and therefore so Death must be old too. But no.
She likes to stand on street corners and watch. If you near her the cigarette won't smell like a cigarette. It'll smell like a fireplace.
"What're you smoking?" you ask. You expect her answer to be some drug, but instead she says,
"The moving life and breath of the universe."
"Why does the smoke look like that?"
"It's the ash of the life I've extinguished. Why," she asks softly. "Do you want to try it?"
