On some nights, should they listen hard enough, one can hear the moon whisper. 

It tells tales of betrayal, of heartbreak, of knives driven into each other’s backs; all of the little cherished, dark secrets people don’t dare let into the light. Cock your ear one way, and in the rustle of grass you hear the sound promises make as they shatter. 

Slipping through velvet shadows under the cover of night, Rosaria knows all it says. She has known, for a long time. She knows which murmur of crickets is loud enough to hide a man’s last breath; she knows what should and should not be done when the moon is full or a sliver in the sky. She knows the words threaded through the darkness, and she uses them, so that when she’s gone nobody knows who left that knife in that neck or drew that fine line of red across that throat.

Sometimes, at least, this is how she uses what the moon tells her. 

But other times, when the words are comforting ones and the sky so silver that she can see it like day, when she can be sure she is alone, Rosaria doesn’t steal those moments in which a blade can be dragged across skin without witness. Instead, she looks up to the moon, at all its dark brightness and whispers which aren’t there, and listens. Without hate, without fear, without the cold and the thorns. 

In moments like these, Rosaria remembers why she became a child of moonlight, not the sun, even after it was offered to her, and she finds herself grateful. Whether anybody exists to answer her thanks is a matter which doesn’t concern her: there is the moon, and that is all she needs.

‘the shimmering voyage’ — a music-based writing event.

the rules are as follows:

  • choose one genshin ost and send me its title (ideally, the more interpretable, the better.) here’s a good playlist if you need to find the title of a soundtrack.
  • i’ll write a short drabble based on the title, as well as trying to capture the mood of the soundtrack itself.
  • you can either specify which character you’d like it written for — this being a choice of xiao, heizou, or albedo if you want a chance of it being x reader, or any other characters (ideally lore-heavier ones) which will be more character-focused* — or you can give me the creative freedom to interpret the character from the track as i please.
  • the nation the soundtrack is from doesn’t have to correspond with the character.
  • *do note that depending on how i’m inspired by the soundtrack and title, i might not make the drabble specifically x reader, and potentially just about the character themselves—and this applies to the three character specified above, too (but if i do write any x reader, it’ll be with them).
