Warning people of the existence of sundown towns feels extra important now.

There are several sundown towns still in Indiana and we have to actively warn international students just not to go there or not to rent houses there even though yeah it IS cheaper and they’ll take your money and then drive you out so you break your lease. Martinsville and Osceola are Klan/Neonazi strongholds and it is goddamn sickening. It’s also heartening that the town of Spencer (near Martinsville) was threatened by the Klan that they’d show up and harass people if there was a LGBTQ pride parade in town…cue the town having the largest rural pride festival in the state and the Klan nowhere to be seen.

I just told someone I identify as queer and they got all pissy at me and said, “no, you’re just gay.”

First off, who does this person think they are trying to tell me what my sexuality is and how i should identify myself? The nerve. (Im aroace, not gay)

Secondly, people who erase the term queer are also erasing All the other LGBTQIA+ labels like asexuals, aromantics, bisexuals, pansexuals, intersex, agender, nonbinary, and trans, etc.

*side note- if someone doesn’t feel comfortable using the word queer, that’s fine (if they don’t like the word, then they don’t have to use it, but to tell someone else not to use it at all even to identify themselves is peek wacko behavior) and if they don’t want to be identified as queer, that’s fine too, but I draw the line when someone disrespects somebody else’s identity. If a person is bothered because someone identifies as queer, that’s their problem, not to mention queerphobic. Also, trying to erase an entire word from existence is ridiculous.
