The Many Faces of Daffy Duck

Daffy Duck is arguably one of the most versatile cartoon characters ever created. He has played a myriad of roles over the course of his long career and shown many distinct personality traits. Each director that has worked on Daffy has brought something to the character and has helped define and develop him. The transition Daffy has made over the years has been startling and quite hilarious. From his humble beginnings as an uncontrollable screwball to the greedy egomaniac we all know and love, Daffy Duck has shown more range than most of today’s live-action actors.

The Day the Earth Blew Up was SUCH a fun watch with just amazing animation, ESPECIALLY that gum monsterholyshitdog. And I just loved/resonated so much with the not-so-subtle shade they had Petunia throwing at derivative, uninspired, repackaged, BLAND "gum". How perfect for the movie to be released around the same time as that Snow White junk to just drive that point home of taking chances and trying something new with creative endeavors vs constant soulless remakes that are creatively bankrupt. I fucking hate these "live action" animation remakes ya'll lol they make me so mad. Anyways, burn that shit up Petunia <3

Never in my life has there ever been a movie more made for me, specifically. BIGGEST and most heartfelt of congratulations to my friends and colleagues who worked on The Day the Earth Blew Up! You all deserve to feel monumentally proud for making something so special. Thank you.

(Please go treat yourself and support everyone’s incredibly hard work by seeing this in the theaters! It needs all of the support and love it can possibly get!)

I love it when you can pick up an animator’s quirks.

I’ve read in old interviews with Milt Khal’s fellow animators that he did the swaggle to purposefully show off. Moving the head in 3-d space is an exceptionally hard thing to do but Khal upped the level of difficulty to a place many animators wouldn’t go.      Not only are they all doing the swaggle you’ll notice they are all TALKING while they are doing it. This is back in the days where you had to use a timing sheet to pace your animation and a head swaggle doesn’t work if its too slow or too fast so he had to figure out the right speed so it looked natural while the character finishes what they have to say while not interfering with the distinct mouth shapes.       Not only did Khal do it without any shifting weight problems or timing issues he would often do it while moving the rest of the body. This isn’t his signature move just because he was good at it.This is his signature move because he was one of the only people skilled enough to DO IT AT ALL.

Milt Khal was a MASTER.

God, I can’t express to you how fucking DELIGHTED I become whenever they Milt Khal Head Swaggle Post graces my dash with its presence again.
