chess being chris and ramon’s thing, symbolizing eddie feeling shut out of his relationship with his son -> we know 813 is about eddie confronting his parents -> chess tournament in the stills -> chris will struggle at some point and ramon and/or helena will offer unhelpful advice -> eddie will step in and say what chris needs to hear (that still of them in the bathroom?) reaffirming the strength of their bond and restoring his confidence in his place in chris’ life -> he unleashes the serpent on his parents and starts to talk/think about moving back to la
MY FUCKING FAMILY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
actually last reblog got me thinking and we really have not given Aisha her flowers enough over how she shot the hookup and the morning after. She had a logistics issue: the actors, for whatever reason (😶), aren't comfortable doing much intimate contact. So she has them work with what they are comfortable doing - mostly manhandling - and uses blocking and dim lighting to obscure how mouths are not making contact. And it works! The way she shot it helps to sell the hookup as impulsive, messy, but still fun
But where it really all comes together for me is how she shoots the aftermath. Buck wakes up alone on a bare mattress and heads into the morning light of the bright white kitchen, and that's where all the illusions are burned away. The truth about the third party between them comes out. And I just love the craft of that! She takes the practical reality that the hookup has to be shot as darkly as possible to make it look right on screen, and turns that limit into a powerful visual metaphor for their entire relationship. They only worked in the dark. Once everything's illuminated they can't hide from that fact anymore.
In conclusion: AISHA HINDS 💐🌻🌹🪻🌷🌸🏵️🌺🌼🪷🎍🥀
