read the booooooks (or ask me off anon)
So this ask is from many months ago, just before tumblr announced the ns/fw ban -- sorry it's taken so long for me to reply. It’s not been an especially fun time to be a ns/fw creator on the internet and I guess I’ve been feeling a little self conscious about it all.
I'm a little sad to see the challenge coming to an end too -- it's been such a fun and good experience for me on so many levels, and it’s nice to always know what to work on next -- and when I first got this message, my response was basically "Hey, there's a new book coming out in autumn, I still love the characters and I’m still excited to see them together! I'll definitely be drawing them again even after the challenge is over."
But to be honest, I don't know. Fandom's such an aggressive and often unpleasant space these days and I’m feeling increasingly anxious about drawing er/otica in a smallish YA fandom (and this one in particular), so I’m not really sure if it’s worth it for me any more. If I have to be this stressed out it might as well be over original work, you know? Then again, maybe with refreshed fannish enthusiasm it'll start to feel like it's worth it again? I’ll have to see how I feel about it later.
I might have to in the future for promotional purposes but I'm not doing that to myself just for fanart, haha. Social media is already kinda too much for me as is and instagram's also not a great platform for someone like me who works all digital (so no cute sketchbooks), gets twitchy about posting WIPs and only finishes one (1) detailed illustration once in a blue moon. -_-;
Hi! I didn't in the end -- the winter months were really exhausting for a variety of reasons and I was already falling behind on some personal projects, so I didn't want to add another commitment to the list. I'm a little sad about it because it's not like we have a lot of big communal events in this fandom but I also want fandom to be a fun, low pressure space and not generally something that feels like work, so. I am really looking forward to checking out everybody’s work though!
