Sudo, she/her. I write stuff sometimes. Probably a strange supernatural entity when you're not looking. This blog is one part life and five parts DP, Submas, and MP100. I’m sorry for nothing.

Currently doing an Insomniac's Gambit. For those of you who don't know, this is when you mess up your sleep schedule badly enough that you attempt to fix it by skipping an entire night of sleep then going to bed at a reasonable hour the next day. Crucially, it does not work

The Insomniac’s Corollary: After the miserable and abject failure of an Insomniac’s Gambit, you will learn nothing from the experience and go on to repeat it many times in your life despite all evidence against it.

😭

Calling scam victims stupid, much like cult members, serves to do nothing but make you feel superior, blame victims for the wrongs done to them, and in turn actually makes you more vulnerable to scams (and cults, and so on). "Look at these people! Morons! I could never be one of them because I am smart, unlike these people who fell for them because they are stupid. It is not about vulnerability and luck, both of which are factors that could affect me, it is all simply a matter of in-born intelligence, which is why I, a better human, don't have to worry about falling for them."

And boom, you have already let your guard down - you would never fall for a scam (or cult, etc.) so you can safely click on that link or read that pamphlet because if it was a scam you'd have identified it as such immediately, because you are smart. You don't need to stop and question. You're too smart. And, really, if they didn't want to get scammed they shouldn't have gone out dressed like that.

We're all potential victims. Every single one of us has been at one point or another been at vulnerable to a scammer, or a pickpocket, or any other number of external force trying to harm you for their own benefit. Blaming the victims feels good but it doesn't help shit in the long run.

Being Cautious makes life really hard...everybody wants me to scan a QR code for some shit or click a link or sign in using an account or put information into a google form etc etc etc just for basic stuff and being like "I don't trust it" makes you seem weird

Sure it makes you seem weird, but there’s power in owning being a paranoid little freak and denying everyone everything because you’re bonkers.

Not only does this filter out some of the more common scams, it also gets you out of things that aren’t scams that you don’t much care for, too!

That said, the way they’re getting bots to impersonate your contacts and spoof their numbers/accounts these days is vile, you can’t be too careful with anyone asking for money or personal information really. It’s very easy to fall for your “best friend” asking you for some emergency money until payday, for example.

Translation: “I am fucking tired of the soviet car industry” *the standard effect of touching a soviet car* *laughs in russian*

I can’t get over the sheer poetry of how the car falls apart - the perfect chain reaction escalating as it travels round.

This is the single funniest video on the Internet

No, it’s even funnier!

He goes “вы заебали на советский автопром”, which is roughly “i’m fucking tired of you (getting) at the soviet car industry”. So he actually says “yall fucking wrong about soviet cars being bolt buckets!” and hits the car as proof of its durability and then it falls apart.

His intonatin gives off a slight hint that he 100% knows what’s gonna happen and is being sarcastic. So very likely he’s not even annoyed, he knows what’s about to follow, laugs about it, and then does it.

Which is even funnier!

I think I’m going to think about this youtube comment forever

[id: a youtube comment by @/KM-mw3jp that reads "When I was in 7th and 8th grade we had a Sikh kid who would carry wet boba around in his pocket and throw them at people for insulting him, his religon, his culture, or other kids. I asked him about it a couple years ago and he said it's cause his dad gave him some talk about how standing up for what's right is part of the religon. So for two years this boy carried an open plastic bag FULL of wet boba around to throw at bullies. If it was a minor insensitive comment or a first time offence it would be one boba. If it was a big thing or a reoccurring bully it could be a bunch. He even threw boba at our substitute teacher one day because she tried to punish us because one kid was talking by making all of us do pushups. He literally went "no that's not fair" and threw like four wet bobas at her.

Pretty sure his dad encouraged that behavior too. And to be honest, it did deter a lot of bullying and name calling." /end id]

Sometimes I see people from countries with public healthcare systems post videos that are like “This is the reality of socialized medicine. I had to wait in the ER with my sick baby for 4 hours.” “I had to wait 8 months to see a specialist. That’s egregious.” or “They didn’t have a bed for my loved one in mental health treatment.” and it’s like. Come to America babygirl. You can experience all of this and have your insurance deny it and pay thousands and thousands of dollars for it. Like I know healthcare systems in countries with public health can be bad but when I see someone imply they’re bad because the healthcare is universal, I want to jump through the screen and put my elbow on their throat. “The NHS is deeply flawed, therefore we should abolish it and go back to private healthcare. That will definitely make healthcare in this country better!” I am going to Kill You.

Ffs can we please just stop having a war of who has it worse. Firstly we all know the Americans have it worse because they live in a shithole, and are here to always remind us how much worse they have it.

Secondly, both of these situations are unacceptable. The American one and the massive waiting lists elsewhere. And yes I know the American ones are more massive and we have to acknowledge that every time we talk about our own countries lest half a dozen Americans barge into our conversations and inform us of such, but the waiting lists of other countries are still MASSIVE. It always feels like we are to sit down and shut up about the problems in our countries because they are Not As Bad As The US.

I had to go private to get my endo surgery done competently. I at least got it in three months, despite the bill. If I went public the waiting period was years, with no choice of surgeon (I needed an endo specialist to avoid losing actual organ parts but would have gotten a non-specialist) for something that turned out could have killed me if I didn’t treat it when I did (stage 4 frozen pelvis endo that nearly tore my bowel open, but no one could see it was that bad until they cut me open). THAT WAIT ON PUBLIC IS STILL UNACCEPTABLE. Yeah, even if the wait in the US could have been years longer and seventeen billion times more expensive. It’s still fucking unacceptable. I am happy and grateful we have a public system and will always support its upkeep and funding. Most of us will. But it’s still undeniably got problems that I will keep pushing to get fixed.

And anyone who wants to get rid of public healthcare can burn, by the way. I literally don’t know a single person who thinks this way because of how laterally fucking insane that is to propose, but to the little weasel traitors out there I might as well say it.
