You can find my art blog here. Or you can see my art tag on this blog, which goes further back since the art blog is only a few years old. Because most posts on this blog are queued, my newer art usually gets here at least a month after it's posted to the art blog.

Wooper Dex is a project I started in 2017. I drew pokefusions of every other pokemon mixed with wooper up through the Scarlet and Violet base game. It's my biggest and most popular art project to date.

I've been running this blog since 2011, so there's a lot of stuff here. I try to tag posts to make it easier for people to find things they might like. This page contains most of my most frequently used tags. It's a bit long since it goes into individual characters and such, so under the read more I'll paste a shorter list of broader tags.

comic book trend that honestly irks the fuck out of me is when an existing character comes out as gay and they invent a new character to be their partner. like theres nothing wrong with it per se its just that the new boyfriend/girlfriend character is always jarringly bland and uninteresting, especially when compared to the latent homosexual potential that definitely already existed in the story. like there’s something so deeply unsatisfying about introducing a new side character as a girlfriend for karma in new mutants 2019 when she’d been having dramatic hand-holding adventures with dani the whole time. it implies such a definite hesitancy to ever make characters gay For Each Other, and the result of that hesitancy is that you don’t get any of the long-term slow-burn relationships that heterosexual characters get (like between batman and catwoman or whatever). instead you get New Relatable Millennial Queer Partner that you have to fight tooth and nail to give a fuck about. nobody’s doing it like rictor and shatterstar anymore nobody’s doing coming out reveals that hit like that

90% of the people who reblogged this have called out tim’s new fuckass boyfriend which i respect but in my mind this was about kitty pryde dating a woman who ISNT illyana rasputin, rachel grey or xuan cao manh when 2/3 of those women are already canonically queer like 😭

how i'm handling my students using AI to write papers:

-don't accuse them on using AI from the get-go and instead ask them to informally define all the huge words that they used in their essay which i know they don't know the meaning of

-ask to see their original file where they "wrote" the essay. go to version history to see if it was just copy and pasted and then just edited a bit. i keep an eye out for the shit like "certainly! here's an essay about...."

-if they own up to it, they can re-do the assignment for a higher grade even if there will be an automatic penalty. if they don't, i process it like plagiarism and get my supervisor involved.

And this is much better than the immediate accusations. Some students have a good vocabulary. Stop accusing them of faking their essays without proof, and this is a good way to check.

Author rant incoming, but I don't know what pisses me off more: lazy assholes who act like they're 'the real deal' because they have an AI make a book or story for them.

Or actual authors who have no class solidarity & use AI slop for their covers.

I can't be the only one who gets pissed at that. There is just so much here to say about how little solidarity there is between different types of creatives, how easily one group will get rid of another because they can save up on money or they already get most of the money. The recent strikes for actors and animators are proof enough that some people got theirs so they don't care about other creatives.

But as a writer who's dirt poor & STILL would never consider using AI for a book cover, I can't help but be bloody disappointed in these people.

It's like that adage of 'if you couldn't be bothered to make it, why should I be bothered to consume it?' Except it's 'if you couldn't be bothered to support a fellow creative, why should I support you?'

"Trask" was initially mistranslated from the French Tarasque, it was actually rectified later in the franchise. I have no idea what the appended "Gorath" or "Mons" used for the dual Tarasques in WA5 mean though...

The origin of the monster is gothic French myth of St.Martha's taming of the beast that had been terrorizing the town of Tarascon. Funny enough, while Wild Arms has a long history of borrowing from D&D, and the Tarrasque[sic] is in fact a fairly classic D&D monster, the Wild Arms design seems to adhere much more closely to the actual conventional mythic description of the monster, where as the D&D illustrations(see:below) have shied away from most of those key identifying features:  a lion-like head, a turtle-like carapace, six feet with bear-like claws, a serpent's tail, and poison breath. Or alternatively... a dragon, half animal, half fish, thicker than an ox, longer than a horse, with "sword-like teeth"

Wild Arms sticks to the turtle shell quite literally, the dragon(oid), retains some fish and serpentine features, and even leverages the fish fins around the head to create a mane-like effect (if not quite lion-esque), and the thick rounded forearms might not be exactly "bear-like" but retain the sense of weight and power that comes with it.

I do find it really interesting that while the leap from 1 to 2 and 2 to 3 made for a lot of changes, where after 3, F, 4 and 5 all basically stuck to the same repository of monster designs, Trask's has more or less carried through the entire franchise. Arguably its lasting iteration maybe only started in 2, not 1, but the original is still pretty darn close.

Make 2025 the year of not falling for smokescreen tactics meant to distract from real problems.

If someone uses racism, sexism, and homophobia to argue that some kids' book from 100 years ago should be banned and that modern kids shouldn't read it, don't pay attention to the racism/sexism/angle they're misusing, focus on the fact that they're advocating for censorship.

If someone puts too much emphasis on tone and wording, don't take them seriously because they're more concerned with appearing morally sound and politically correct than they are with BEING decent people.

If someone starts a crusade to remove fictional "pedoshit" from fandom spaces, report their ass because they're taking focus away from stopping real pedophilies and child groomers.

If someone hyperfocuses on little details in their argument that something innocuous is actually dangerous and evil, don't trust them. Do not engage, do not call out, consider them a red flag and block them.

It's time to stop giving terminally online idiots what they want.

everyone’s talking about how unhinged fans are nowadays about their blorbos. well let me tell you that when the polish writer henryk sienkiewicz first published his novel ‘with fire and sword’ in parts between 1883 and 1884, and killed off the beloved character longinus podbipięta, people nationwide were so upset they’d go to church and ask for requiem masses to be held in his memory. match THAT freak

yes i know about the arthur conan doyle sherlock frenzy this isn’t about that at all stop english cultural imperialism #slavicpride
