The idea that the Vampire Chronicles books are irrelevant to the TV and must not be factored into interpretation and analysis is very wrong. Here are some things I believe are true:
- The TV show and the books (and the 1994 movie, for that matter) are different types of media with overlapping but not identical goals
- The TV show has made a lot of adaptational changes that mean some parts of the books do not apply to the show
- We can't be 100 percent sure exactly what the show will change or discard in future seasons, from books it hasn't yet adapted
But also,
- The show is an adaptation of the books, and so even when the show is different from the books it is responding to and in dialogue with the books
- The people who write the show reference the books all the time, and have taken pictures of the annotated copies of the books they're reading
- Notable fans of the show have been sent copies of the books by the team that makes the show
- The show runner wandered around SDCC in 2024 with a copy of one of the books
- The actors talk about their connection to the books

It is genuinely WILD how close they keep getting to an Official Hard Launch without actually hard launching. i hope that we'll get louis and armand in the same room together in the future season(s), specifically because i wanna see the level of spiteful failed partnership i haven't seen before. they were already great exes when they were together and now they're actually exes? i want them to have quiet angry eye contact across the room full of people. i want them to make offhand embarrassing observations about each other, because they spent so much time together that no one knows them better - and they both hate this fact. i wanna see them weaponize their relationship. i know it's better for louis to just ignore armand completely, but i hope they'll have those interactions

Sometimes I remind myself that both Dan and Phil will get more mature and leave YouTube. They won’t be attending SiTC or Playlist Live anymore. Their jobs are as radio show hosts. They’ll find a girl who they think is best for them and get married, move into separate houses, have a family and be happy. I just hope they’ll think of YouTube and who they were, AmazingPhil and danisnotonfire before they take their last breath.
this will probably only interest me, but i'm trying to get back into the habit of blogging more (@bitchslapblastoids, i owe you a dreamwidth primer. that's coming) and i've been experiencing this really weird deja vu. i'm consuming all the trixie & katya content I can get my grubby little hands on right now because that's how I consume content when I do a new fandom. I blasted through Unhhh in about two weeks and I'm making my way through the pod (hence my messy question about certain frequent pod subjects earlier this week.)
