Children saying "I'd rather be dead" is not normal. Children crying "is this a dream?" is not normal. Children wondering "am I being taken to the cemetery?" is not normal.

We can all reckon the lasting psychological effects of this genocide on these children, but also remember that to many of the children of Gaza, this is the second, third, or even fourth Israeli aggression they had to live through.

Almost 50% of Gaza's population are children, over 10,000 of which have been murdered by Israel since October of this year.

We forgot about it

I once signed up to participate in a study on how depression affects memory, forgot I was meant to go do it, and when I emailed to apologise to the PhD student running it she basically told me that a) she was very used to this happening and b) the weird irony of her theories’ correctness making it very difficult to arrange proving them had by now gone from infuriating to hysterical

Death Note is so funny because so many people look at the story and think of Light Yagami as this everyman protagonist that’s just “doing what anyone would do with such power and falling because of it” but you gotta remember that Light was already like. a freak. a freak who THINKS he’s an everyman but is still a freak about it.

mere DAYS after getting the death note he thinks that burning down his house with a majority of his family inside just to hide his diary is a reasonable excuse. this is the kind of man who rewrites the dialogue in Dilbert to be to his tastes. he’s like if the Joker went to OfficeMax once. he’s incredible.

we spend so much time in his head where he's quite serious and bordering on cold, but all indications are that the people around him think of him as quite sweet, notably outgoing, and a little bit goofy. which makes it all the more reasonable that the task force finds L's assertion that he's a serial killer bizarre despite his objectively suspicious behaviour

they don't seem to find it at all notable when he zones out, though, because here they are talking around him without trying to engage him in conversation. which makes sense -- he seems happy enough. so i think we can guess he does this outside of this specific hangout.
