she/her, queer, married to @mcrololo. Maker of things, thinker of thoughts. This is my silly little corner where I just share whatever.

My parents think my response to when a women asked me the following question question is why stopped being pursued in my Catholic community. It was a lighthearted discussion but maybe they are right lol. Although every single happily Godly married couple who I asked this question to (seperately from each other) has given the same response, my parents included.

So, the question:

No nuance button because nuances is already baked in. We are assuming both spouses are able to make a sandwich (nobody is in a full-body cast or had brain cancer or whatever).

AND NO NASTINESS

Research has shown that pleasure affects nutrient absorption. In a 1970s study of Swedish and Thai women, it was found that when the Thai women were eating their own (preferred) cuisine, they absorbed about 50% more iron from the meal than they did from eating the unfamiliar Swedish food. And the same was true in the reverse for the Swedish women. When both groups were split internally and one group given a paste made from the exact same meal and the other was given the meal itself, those eating the paste absorbed 70% less iron than those eating the food in its normal state.

Pleasure affects our metabolic pathways; it’s a facet of the complex gut-brain connection. If you’re eating foods you don’t like because you think it’s healthy, it’s not actually doing your body much good (it’s also unsustainable, we’re pleasure-seeking creatures). Eat food you enjoy, it’s a win-win.

what

no seriously

what?

PLEASURE IS A NECESSARY PART OF HUMAN HEALTH, BOTH PSYCHOLOGICALLY AND PHYSICALLY

this is why you should be eating your chips with salsa and guac instead of beating yourself up for not eating a salad with tomato and avocado (unless you are a salad bitch like me then enjoy both of them!)

for those of you wondering if the studies cited above are legit and if so where we can read about them, here’s a link to one of the (more than a dozen!) papers written on the topic of nutrient absorption and how you eat your food:

hey look, additional info!

Distinct from fine art, it’s also about avoiding developing the skill of written composition (forget vocab, spelling, grammar, appropriate word choice, proof-reading), it’s about avoiding developing any ability to express yourself, and failing to develop reading comprehension (if you plug something into it, asking for a summary). It’s just about being lazy and incompetent, and insisting that laziness and incompetence is fine, actually.

AI replaces thinking. Again.

It does the thinking for you while simultaneously making you believe you know what the hell you're talking about. And then you are far more likely to say and/or do the stupidest shit imaginable with your whole chest, thinking you're in the right. And then you get mad when someone tries to correct you.

Hey all, Crips for Esims for Gaza has been purchasing E-sims for people in Gaza and need help to continue their advocacy!

We link them in our Hi Nay episodes but want to remind people to help out if they can and donate! They're an offshoot of the E-sims for Gaza program created by Mirna El-Helbawi, and allow you to, if you are overwhelmed by the E-sims purchasing process, streamline it.

You donate to Crips for Esims for Gaza, and they do it for you. Help these fantastic disabled activists if you're able!

Link in replies so Tumblr doesn't hide this!

I honestly do just presume everyone in the world has watched naruto I just can't comprehend a person that hasn't witnessed rock Lee take off his training weights or seen naruto sit sadly on a swing 50 times so when I see someone say they've never seen naruto I just don't believe them they have definitely watched naruto it is a universal life step

could you guys please stop shattering my world view

I dont know why this poll is getting so much attention but my response to it so far is just

ranking the best things I have had heard surgeons say mid-surgery:

  1. "Five second rule!" while scrubbed, after dropping a sterile scalpel on the floor (no they did NOT pick it up again but I swear everyone's buttholes puckered)
  2. (spoken during the closing of a particularly long and difficult case) "Nurse - my tunes." :heavy metal starts blasting:
  3. Gently to a fretful patient, pre-anaesthesia: "It's going to be okay. I promise, I've dealt with worse." As soon as the patient is unconscious: "This is literally the worst thing I've ever seen."
  4. [okay this one was a med student] "Wowwww, that's so gross!!" Reg: ""[xxx], "Please remember that the patient is awake for this procedure." Student to patient: "Oh my god. I am so sorry, that was really unprofessional - " Patient, cheerfully, also engrossed with what's happening inside them on the screen: "Nah - it's, like, super gross, right?"
  5. [another procedure where the patient couldn't be anaesthetised] Patient: *starts singing country roads midway through the procedure* Surgeon: *shrugs and joins in with surprisingly good harmony*

What is something your oc's totally hate? Something mundane! Like a taste of a fruit or a color or smrn.

honestly the first thing that came to mind that would work for (almost) all of them would be. wet socks fdhgfjhgf

BUT to get a bit more serious.

Does it count to say that Emily hates to dance? She's unlearning it, but her mom has made some comments when she was a kid, about her having terrible rhythm and that she shouldn't flail around so much or she would break something, and she's internalized that as 'I hate to dance'. Not really that mundane, but it is one of the most prominent dislikes I've written in a character.

Coming up with this on the spot but Chloe hates the texture of egg. To eat, I mean. Cooked. But also raw - I imagine she tried while in one of her animal forms since some animals can actually handle eating raw egg. I think she'd find omelette fine as long as it's paired with something else like bread.

Sara hates when people walk into a home with their shoes on. "You're going to get the outside dirt all over the living room floor!!!!!" That's where she walks with her clean white SOCKS can you imagine them getting muddy........ absolutely horrible. The shoes come off in the hallway or you're not allowed into her house.

I'm also pretty sure she dislikes bright neon colors. All of them.

Gabriella dislikes musical movies! I think she's tried to like them, but when you're watching a movie and they suddenly start singing, that's just... no. I think she'd be able to handle musical theatre because the setting is so different, and it's not music that she hates, just the random singing. (Also movies where music is part of the plot, like Sister Act or Pitch Perfect, those are fine, but Disney musicals make her sigh and grit her teeth.)

genuinely they have probably saved people.

they HAVE saved people actually i’m 100% sure of that. i’ve learned about so many recalls i would’ve had no idea about otherwise !!!! from the bottom of all of our hearts thank you mamoru

aw shucks, thank YOU! what a pick me up!

when I was younger, I got food poisoning. I was supposed to recover from it, but I wound up with a bunch of nasty medical conditions instead. I never imagined I would become disabled from food.

so I am really glad I have been able to help spread the word every now and then about food safety and recalls, since it hopefully means a few less people going through what I have.

while I have your attention, I do not post every recall, even just for the US, so here are a few of the links I use!

  • recalls.gov/recent.html <- aggregate of official government recall links for the US! food, drugs, products, child safety seats, motor vehicles, and tires! (half the feeds are broken half the time, but hey, it works™! check the FDA enforcement reports for a more complete list of recalls, especially drug recalls!)
  • recalls for canada <- recalls for canada!
  • RASFF <- food recalls and safety alerts for the EU!
  • food safety news <- news about food safety in the US, canada, and around the world!
  • I was poisoned <- see where people have gotten food poisoning near you, and report your own! (worldwide!)

thanks for reading, stay safe and take care!
