My TikTok account, if you do that sort of thing
I am, at least for the moment, answering questions about air traffic control on TikTok. If that's your jam, you can check it out here.

ETA: I don’t mind that the Graveyard Book was a retelling. Inspiration is fine. (Lifting passages and avoiding credit is not.) But if you can’t read Gaiman anymore and you want to look for his more satisfying sources—here’s a start.
If safety in your ideal society is entirely based on care by networks of affinity, and does not provide care for people who are not liked by anybody, then your society is actually even worse than the situation we are in now.
Pissing off people close to you or over-exhausting your social network or isolating yourself is often an inherent part of many mental health problems, addictions, etc. By the time people need care the most, they have often lost all their networks of affinity, and with some bad luck, any of us could find ourselves in that situation.
There has to be unconditional care available for the more unlikable of us, or there isn't really a safety net for any of us.
generally speaking when it comes to mental and physical health, if you're asked "do you struggle with this" and your answer is "no, Because I Have A System," then your answer is actually yes
"Waa why aren't fandoms fun anymore" because you keep policing people's headcanons, make fun of cosplayers, make fun of selfshipers, make fun of beginner artists and just make fun of people for having fun 😐
You guys want this to stay fun? Support each other! Or. Say. Nothing.
Weird-ass headcanon or hot take that has you scratching your head? Find something about it you agree with to comment on! ...or say nothing.
Cosplayer doesn't look anything like the character? They worked hard on it and want you to see it! Commend them for their attention to detail, paintwork, or stitching. ...or say nothing.
See a creative work that isn't at the god-level tier you'd prefer to see on your dash? Leave a comment or a reblog containing something you DID like about it. That person who's just beginning to hone their skills was brave enough to share their creative journey and might be the person you're raving about in a year because YOU were the one to show them the encouragement they needed to keep at it and get better. ...or say nothing.
Don't like that people are self-shipping themselves with your favorite blorbo, shipping in a way that squicks you, or doing something else you find incredibly cringy? No one's forcing you to interact with that content. Filter tags, filter words, and block the content from your feed! ...and say nothing.
The path to a fun fandom isn't hard. Be nice. Encourage people. These are HOBBY spaces. They're supposed to be fun!
I think maybe the most ironic part of the white supremacist “Muslims are taking over Europe, save European culture and its people!” rhetoric is that they’ve been saying it for the past 1,300 years. No exaggeration. This is something they’ve been fearmongering about since the 8th century.
Then they’ll complain about how historically inaccurate and woke it is that there are nonwhite characters in European period dramas like it is totally impossible for a North African man to be in England in the 13th century and we don’t have manuscripts of assholes complaining about it from back then.
Yes in yhe past they were afraid that muslims would move in and take their criminal culture with them, NOW Muslims and their criminal culture ARE literally taking over Europe, look the fuck around lol.
Not even questionable, the only safe countries have little to no muslim culture. Strange, but it's happening.
1,300 years. you share your racism and Islamophobia and political rhetoric with an 8th century nobleman. that should embarrass you. alas.
having a freeze response to stress is so funny in the context of normal adult stressors. millions of years of evolution are trying to tell me that the email will not find me if i stay very still and do nothing

One Source of Bad Information
There's a boy in you about three years old who hasn't learned a thing for thirty Thousand years. Sometime it's a girl.
This child had to make up its mind How to save you from death. He said things like: "Stay home. Avoid elevators. Eat only elk."
You live with this child, but you don't know it. You're in the office, yes, but live with this boy At night. He's uninformed, but he does want
To save your life. And he has. Because of this boy You survived a lot. He's got six big ideas. Five don't work. Right now he's repeating them to you.

That was Kickstarter exclusive! Like, no. Stop. Please return the game book to the shelf and remove your clothes. Please?

#throwback to that one time a platonic friend invited me to a swinger club#and his earnest reasoning was#'the buffet there is the best I have ever been to and it's so cheap we need to eat our way through the buffet together'#I didn't go but I have reliable sources that the buffet really is that good (via @notgreengardens)
The best sex party I ever went to nearly stopped because someone taped a sheet to the back of sliding glass windows and were using dry erase markers to make diagrams. A bunch of math and physics PhD’s were helping a chemistry phd with a thorny problem and they cheered when they solved it. A board game night broke out and it was really hard to pry people away from the games, science and snacks for sex so someone put up a pole in the living room and four women started pole dancing while shouting instructions to the scientists and board game nerds.
Epic party, I think I shagged 8 women that night and I won a card game.
i must write this or perish
I’ve watched this video so many times I swear I’ve memorized it.
“DON’T GET ME STARTED ON THE FUCKING NAVY-“
I found a VHS tape at the junk store, labeled just “A Surprise!”. Since I’d recently set up my VCR and old 80s TV, I thought I should check it out.
Just… just watch.
i don't really want to see this retconning of neil gaiman's writing where people are re-analyzing stories like "look...you can see the message under the surface...showing how he was actually abusive IRL...it's all there..."
idk maybe we should just listen to people when they speak up and say they were abused and try to foster a culture of respecting victims and actually enforcing justice against perpetrators instead of doing this weird fucking da vinci code-esque picking apart of his stories. stories which everyone was fine with for decades!! because we understand that the content that people write and produce does not have a 1 to 1 correlation with their real world actions!!!
i fully support people who cannot engage with his work anymore and i do think that because he's a still-living person it's imperative to not give this guy another cent, but we cannot pretend that everyone was just "too dumb" to see the secret clues and turn this into another case of "what you write is what you endorse." plenty of dogshit people write good stories. plenty of good people write dark stories. that's all.
Sometimes people get their start in fandom with something like, idk, the MCU or light action shows like Supernatural or children's fantasy like Warriors (this last example said with love), where the writing is an inconsistent mess, characterization can change on a dime, there's no themes stronger than like "family" or "stop the bad guy from changing our way of life". And their fandom experience is taking the hints of interesting ideas presented and dropped and spinning them into something interesting, or just fluffy and fun, and then discarding the rest.
And then these people come to a piece of art that like. Actually has themes and good writing and a coherent vision, but they're still trained on The Giant Trash Heap That Must Be Sorted Through, so they start their routine of excising fun yaoi moments and throwing the rest in the trash, except now the rest is like. A professionally made passion project by a group of skilled writers with a hundred years writing experience between them, and this fan is writing the same coffee shop AUs as ever. And it makes something that feels same-y and fandom out of something unique and well-made and, well, interesting.
And like. That's their prerogative, more power to them, but it makes me wanna pull my hair out to talk to these people about a piece of media I actually care about beyond that Trash Heap level.
And if you're someone whose only fandom experience has been Trash Sorting and you're running into people arguing with you abt their favorite piece of media, give them a second thought I guess?
love and peace, @kingofgoblets. this is a good addition
[ screencapture is of tags that say: #and honestly i still like that stuff. i too was born in the trash. raised by it. #but you gotta know when you're just scrapbooking bits and pieces #versus when you're reading a full rich text thoroughly #there is room in your brain for both i promise #but even on days when you only have scrapbook energy #don't. do NOT.
