it was all too much, and now I have nothing left

#op said this piece was about dropping out of art college. and yeah#mightily mightily felt.#i also left school after putting all of myself into it and it ached. but life kept moving forward#and i turned the old ribbons into several baskets that held all my new eggs#and now I have a stable job. friends. and a keener eye for the art i want to make without all the guilt#this too shall pass#not my art#but it is beautiful

While I understand the desire to represent the "canonical" women of the series, I made the deliberate decision to include trans headcanons and genderbent expressions of characters because at the end of the day: trans women and nb folk may relate to these characters, and want to express them in a way that speaks to their experience. There are a limited number of trans women in the series, and by limiting it to canonical representation, I think we're making a statement about womanhood and gender that doesn't align with our beliefs.

It's not my belief that writing about, for example, a transwoman HC Sanji takes away from any other girl in the series. If we limited it in this way, the creative expression of our diverse community could be really stifled. More importantly, this way of thinking really lends itself to TERFisms and transphobia. That doesn't slide here - if you don't like it, don't sign up for it.

And at the end of the day, Nami and Robin remain some of the most popular characters in our signups. They're getting plenty of appreciation! Allowing for other unique takes on characters is not detracting from our love for them at all!

Anyone who is not a TERF is welcome to join - we have plenty of other events going on (Like our Pirate Warfare, where Alvida and Boa are fighting for control of our server! Or our writing competition!) and we center all our content around womanhood.
