I wish rheumatologists would TELL YOU why they’re asking questions and doing certain tests. there’s one test - having me bend over to touch my toes - that she had me do during each appointment. and because I’m hyper flexible, I can bend in half and place my palms flat on the ground. but WHAT I’VE JUST LEARNED is that one of the diagnostic criteria for psoriatic arthritis is loss of flexibility.

now, during a flare up, I can’t bend my back at all. if I drop something, retrieving it becomes a serious problem. I have to carefully bend my legs while keeping my spine straight, it looks ridiculous. but when I’m not in a flare up, I’m able to move more or less normally.

if I went to an appointment during a flare up, she’d be able to write down “flexibility severely impaired”, but because I didn’t, and because she didn’t TELL ME why touching my toes mattered, my diagnosis was delayed. which meant delayed medication, which meant further deterioration of my bones and joints. and probably there’s a million other examples of bad communication that I’m not even aware of yet.

Hey, could someone who’s good at the economy tell me if the message I received last night from my 401k provider that essentially said “Have fun, be yourself, and remember that nothing in life is guaranteed! Do not attempt to counter market volatility!!” is a good sign?
