decolonization is not a metaphor

@wiisagi-maiingan / wiisagi-maiingan.tumblr.com

Trying to reconnect to my Ojibwe heritage. Disabled and queer adult. My pronouns are they/them or vae/vaem. Radfems, transmeds, and aphobes/exclusionists DNI.

Pin post time!

I'm an aro and nonbinary Ojibwe person, my pronouns are they/them/vae/vaem, and I'm nameless right now but you can call me Wiisagi. I'm also disabled and I'll talk about that a lot!

I am pro-queer, pro-trans, pro-sex work, pro-prison abolition, pro-abortion, and very much anti-radical feminism in all its forms. That includes TERFs, T"I"RFs, SWERFs, people who are "kink-critical", and anyone in the "masculinity is bad and dangerous and evil" club. You aren't welcome here!

My inbox is closed and will probably remain so forever, sorry not sorry! I don't reblog callouts ever and I do my absolute damnedest to stay out of drama but if you're an ass to me, I'll call you out on it.

I have had this blog for years. Many of my older posts are worded poorly or are things I no longer believe or fully agree with, especially as I've grown out of reactionary and extreme radicalist mindsets. Please keep that in mind when exploring this blog or following me after finding one of my posts in the wild.

I know what people like to claim about me and they're welcome to do so. I know who I am and what I am and strangers online don't get to make me doubt that.

Don't call me Native American or use gendered terms for me (girl, dude, ma'am, etc) please.

And as my header says, DECOLONIZATION IS NOT A METAPHOR.

I've talked about this before but I wish so desperately that there was more accessible criticism and discussion of cults and anti-science rhetoric (vaccines are evil, meditation cures cancer, homeopathy, etc) coming from people other than ex-fundamentalist Christians. Like so many podcasts and youtube series start out okay and then just descend into "all religion is stupid and you're in a cult if you believe in any diety ^-^" and it's exhausting.

People will be like, "I think all religions are evil and violent and ultra controlling cults and I came to this conclusion from growing up as an American fundamentalist Christian. This is definitely an accurate reflection of all religion ever and not just me projecting my own specific experiences and religious trauma onto the entire world. The things I say about other religions will be deeply antisemitic, islamophobic, racist, and ableist but I will deny that to my last breath because religion is bad and stupid and everyone needs to know."

Hey Americans, if you have a state Supreme Court vote coming up, vote in it. A Supreme Court can make or break a state, especially in this current political climate, and we actually have control over who gets into our state courts.

Wisconsites, we have a Supreme Court vote coming up in April and if you don't vote in it, I'm going to cut a hole into all your window screens, right on the very edge so it's in a place where you can't just patch it but it's too big to just ignore. Enjoy your box elder bugs and grass spiders ๐Ÿ”ซ

The Wisconsin Supreme Court election is on April 1st. That means that it's happening this Tuesday. Wisconsites, for the love of god, if you haven't cast your vote already, go out and vote.

Super educational website about how this works & which seats are up for election in 2025 (scroll down)

If you insist on referring to other cultures' spirits and folklore figures as fairies, demons, angels, etc even when you're told that those terms aren't accurate or that those spirits have their own names, then I really just want you to think about why you're only able to conceptualize spirituality and culture through a European and Christian lens.

"Calling indigenous spirits fairies is not that big of a deal ๐Ÿ™„" Not to you, but it is to people whose cultures have always been measured against European cultures and found wanting.

My roommate thought she hated cooking and then she moved in with me and started using knives that were actually sharp and realized cooking is fun. Sometimes I wonder how many other situations are like this. It's not you, or your skills. It's just the lack of correct tools. Everyone knows you need a knife in the kitchen but no one mentions a sharpening stone.

Also you should probably sharpen your knife.

Speaking less metaphorically I literally do wonder how many people would realize Cooking Doesn't Suck if only they had sharper knives. Cutting vegetables is not supposed to be a workout. You're not supposed to apply force when you press down. If you have to force the knife down then the knife is dull! This is a fixable problem!

So funny looking up reviews for Aldi items on youtube and seeing thumbnails that say "THEY DON'T WANT YOU TO KNOW ABOUT THIS!!!" like bud, who is they??? Because this was pasted on the flyers you can take when you walk out of the store lmao

More than 1000 people have been killed in a horrific 7.7 magnitude earthquake in Myanmar and Thailand, and the devastation is enormous. To help survivors:

World Central Kitchen are en route to the affected areas.

MSF/Doctors Without Borders also have teams on the ground to aid the injured.

The death toll has risen to over 1600. The International Rescue Commitee is also now responding, as well as several other humanitarian organisations.

I love watching Duolingo steadily go downhill. First they got rid of the ability to do lessons to regain hearts unless you had zero, now they got rid of even that. Amazing. Capitalism is killing any tiny bit of innovation in the world.

On that same note, I think a lot of people need to really accept the fact that they can become disabled at literally any moment. Not all disabilities are slow and progressive illnesses or massive tragic accidents or simple aging, you can become disabled by tripping in your house or hitting your head against something while doing housework or even just by existing and experiencing a sudden brain aneurysm or blood clot or something else that can change your life in literal seconds. Bodies are both very durable and extremely delicate in ways that we don't entirely understand and they change in moments.

You've gotta take this in, really hold it in your mind and understand it. If you are able-bodied, that is most likely a temporary state. Statistically speaking, you will be physically disabled one day. That's life, friends.

Heyyyyy I've been watching a lot of kitchen gadget review videos because they're fun and good background noise but I would like to remind people that a lot of "ridiculous" gadgets are in fact intended to mainly be used by disabled people who may not be able to do a lot of things that other people find easy or simple.

I think people really take for granted the ability to do things like chop food finely (or at all), hold utensils, hold things in place to cut them, twirl forks, lift up cups and glasses, bring utensils to the mouth, etc. Even really basic things like squeezing tea bags can be a real struggle for a lot of people (hello! I am one of those people!). If you can do all that without significant trouble, it's easy to forget that not everyone can do the same AND that you can lose those abilities, sometimes very suddenly.

it fucking sucks being a disabled person who can't work and having to see these fuckass posts where someone's like "ahaha jobless people have no life and that's why everyone shitty online has No Job" and everyone and their mother reblogs it joyfully onto my dash for me to see. yes unemployed and unemployable people are truly without exception dogshit people with no hobbies and no redeeming qualities. you're so right. anyway if you'll excuse me i have to start my shift at the I'll Never Be Employed Because Of Permanent Disability And I Love Knowing How You Really See Me store

if ur able to work can u reblog this i am seriously SO sick of it.

btw this isn't solely a disability rights issue or an issue about people who are entirely unable to work. you should also be thinking about the people who are regarded as unhireable. transfems are hugely discriminated against in this way, people of color are passed over for less qualified white people, anyone who has any difficulty playing the interview game is less hireable... frankly anyone who made the mistake of pursuing the things they love and now has a degree for a niche field. if you still joke about Jobless People it's because you've fundamentally connected the worth of people to their labor, and specific labor, work that you see as valuable. and while i'm at it stop making fun of people who still live with their parents. asshole.
