if it was inflation, why havent wages gone up? if it was inflation, why aren't all game publishers releasing their games at that price? baldurs gate and black myth: wukong released at 70, but they've both been lowered to 60. helldivers was and is still 40 dollars.

It's not about defending them its about people being irrationally angry at them. Alot of us are too young to remember the fact that 60 dollars used to be very expensive when games first started being priced that way, it's just been the standard for so long that people eventually earned enough for it be more accessible.

The actual problem is that we are living in times of need where everything is overpriced and we are underpaid, every economy is suffering and the value of money is rapidly being lowered. While I can't promise that 70 dollars will eventually be as accessible as 60 dollars was (we could end up in a dystopia where buying anything is impossible without working outrageous hours) trends seem to imply we will be able too.

Honestly, I get the gut reaction to rage at Nintendo for raising their prices since most people see them as the "little kids good guy game maker company", but they aren't. They're a normal company who while taking their craft very seriously and with a level of devotion most other triple a developers aren't, still need to meet profit margins, pay their workers fairly, and please shareholders. And their target demographic isn't just kids or families anymore, actually hardcore(tm) gamers are now who they also market too. Which means making hardcore(tm) and super good looking games to please that crowd, but that's expensive, and due to the costs of selling outside their home country they have to up the price.

I know this is a long post and most people won't care, they'll just be mad about stuff they likley weren't planning to actually buy at all. But I felt the need to make it since there's alot of context people just don't consider or don't know about. I don't have the money to drop on the ns2 or it's 70 and 80 dollar games, and at least for this first half year I'm not super interested in buying it (since the only game I'm kind of interestedd in is Mario kart but that's something you need friends to really get mileage out of), but I do think these prices are justified, even if I can't comfortably afford them.

again, how are these prices justified if no other company has priced their games like this? ive already mentioned two games that dropped their 70 dollar price tag, and i only mention the ones that come to mind bc theres still a ton of other games that release at 60 or lower.

stop trying to justify greedy behavior in AAA gaming. it's not doing anything for anyone. nobody is treating nintendo like they expected "good guy" behavior from them- people were already pissed at them charging 70 for games, even more pissed at them charging 60 dollars for remasters/rereleases of games. you people are so weird coming to Nintendo's defense- and you ARE defending them even if you type the words "its not about defending them." wages havent gone up, cost of living has continued to skyrocket. i dont know where you get your information from, if you indeed got it from somewhere and didnt just make it up, but what "trends" show a precedence for this? god you're annoying

I can either stick with Nintendo and buy their overpriced games, or switch to Sony and Xbox and buy their overpriced games. If I don't then my hobby is DEAD.

Can I though?? Most good PC games today require really good PCs to run. Then there's the ones that have over a thousand dollars in DLC. Indie games are nice, because they're always very fairly priced...but it's extremely difficult to discover new indie games and some of them just aren't that good.

NO. I CAN'T. Because Nintendo is going to take down every single new emulator that pops up! And the ones that do exist I couldn't even get to work.

I'm not defending Nintendo's greedy ass behavior... I'm defending MY EXISTENCE. I'm an autistic adult who's been so positively affected by Nintendo games. Games that got me through the hardest of times, the deepest of depressions. These games have literally changed my life for the better. And people expect me to give all of that up? People expect me to boycott something that brings me insurmountable joy and stability, something that keeps me going every day, gives me something to look forward to, something that shines a bright light in the silent darkness that is having to deal with all my problems.

Nintendo is greedy. Yes. And it sucks. But so is LITERALLY everyone else except for *most* indie developers. But I just don't care anymore.

You can call me and others like me selfish if you want. I won't argue against it. But we live in a shitty world right now and the one thing that brings me joy in it is playing fucking Mario.

And I just want to be happy without someone yapping in my ear about greed and corporate bullshit.
