Love it when tumblr users display the strangest anon hate they've gotten on their banner. It's like a deer's head mounted on the wall but the deer also calls you a slur
it’s unfortunate that (some) people in fandom spaces are starting to get too comfortable complaining and being rude to writers and artists who create contents they personally don’t like (“why are you making this character a top when he’s obviously a bottom? omg do you even understand his character?” “I’m so sick of seeing fan art and fanfic where this character is portrayed as a sadist when he’s actually misunderstood in my opinions, therefore anyone who disagrees with me is wrong and should be shamed” just to name a few I’ve seen) instead of curating their own fandom experiences by engaging only with contents they do like.
you want more fics where (x) is written in this specific way? either write one yourself or politely expressing your opinion about how you hope there will be more fics where (x) is written in this specific way instead of making fandom a toxic place by being rude to writers and artists who dare make contents that are not to your Personal Liking.
if the universe does not revolve around you, strangers and fandom spaces don’t have to cater exclusively to your personal preferences either.
to all my beloved writers and artists, write whatever you want, draw whatever you want. portray that character in whichever way you want to portray. I hope you have fun doing what you love. don’t let anybody tell you what you can or can’t do with the blorbo. go wild. I will always support you
this whole "job thing" is rlly starting to get in my way. i need to watch made up people falling in love on tv, and then i need to read more extensively about it online. why is that so hard to understand
In 2017, American film researchers recovered “Something Good – Negro Kiss,” a short film depicting a playful kiss between a Black couple which had not seen the light of day for more than a century. A long-forgotten artifact from the earliest years of American film, the sweet, humanizing vignette, produced by the Selig Polyscope Company, makes a startling contrast to the overwhelmingly racist and blackface-ridden contempory portrayals of African Americans. Four years later in 2021, archivists in Norway, halfway across the world, identified a sister short in their collections—an extended alternate cut which reveals more of Chicago stage performers Gertie Brown and Saint Suttle’s vaudeville-like routine, a theatrical, hot-and-cold romantic dynamic between two lovers which parodies the popular and controversial short “The Kiss” (1896).
Both films, which had previously been lost, were known from entries in old motion picture catalogs but had been assumed to be era-typical, anti-Black “race films” until their rediscovery in the 21st century. Together with its more famous sibling, which has since been inducted into the Library of Congress’ National Film Registry, this alternate version of “Something Good” represents the first-known instance of Black intimacy ever captured on-screen.
SOMETHINGGOOD [Alternate Version] (1898)
Directed by William Selig
Like that it has currently 4.7 Stars on Goodreads is insane to me, like....you guys have no issues whatsoever with this book...like really? Even from just a "technical" stand point with the prose, dialogue and pacing??? (Score will probably change soon in like 6 months or so, because a lot of those 5 star reviews came in before the book was even out but still)
But yeah this being the "missing puzzle piece that explains everything" is just....not true? The story works fine without it. Like even TBOSAS added more interesting thing to story to see the early years of the games. And a deeper look into Snow as a character because from the books alone, we know nothing about him, so getting inside on him was interesting.
Honestly main reason I liked TBOSAS even as a concept is because this was a prequel nobody asked for, so it felt like truly the quote people constantly throw at Collins with "I only write when I have something to say"
But yeah back to SOTR, I will just say.... not everything needs an explanation, especially small mundane things. Like what did it really add to the story learning that the "Sweetheart" nickname is actually a super tragic reason behind it and it's because Katniss reminds Haymitch of a dead girl he never mentions in the trilogy
Like that Haymitch has this connection with Katniss before even getting to know her kind of ruin the relationship for me, I've always liked the idea that he finally got out of his self pitying spiral of alcoholism, because he realized he truly had a fighter in his hand and someone he saw himself in and getting the chance to save a younger version of himself. That was at least my take on them.
BUT NO, she is actually the daughter of his best friend he never mentions to her, like even him finding some connection with her because she had Maysilee's pin is more meaningful because that is established in the main books and we the reader can just put those two things together.
How does it make Haymitch a better character if the only reason he bothered to finally try was because of Katniss being someone he should care about, idk can't people just care about each other for being themselves instead of it being because of some past relationship
Don't know if I'll go as far as to say everyone who enjoyed the book are morons, but I think some of them will probably benefit from actually thinking more critically about the media they enjoy
Ironically enough
i just saw a post on reddit titled "the writer is cooking but the food doesn't agree with me" and it was about OP clicking off a fic because they don't like the direction it's going in. slightly different context but can we all be more like this reddit OP. i think "the writer is cooking but the food doesn't agree with me" should be the new "don't like don't read." dead doves may give you diarrhea but don't make that everyone else's problem.
My boyfriend was showing me his cat and I leaned over to kiss the cat on his soft little baby head and he went "meow" and scrambled away because I'd been wearing my headphones and I accidentally jabbed him with the microphone.
And I said "Damn, this is exactly like in the Iliad"
Imagine being 16 years old and corraled into a strange house to have a tête-á-tête with the president-dictator of the country where he stops his thinly veiled threats halfway through the conversation when you tell him your girlfriends name and then he goes into a weirdly personal rant about the women of her ethnic group and how they scheme and lie and she never actually loved me-I mean YOU, and you're just nodding along doing your best to not get brutally murdered on live television the way he pinky prommied you would if you keep fucking up his child death extravaganza. Happened to my good friend Haymitch
