The traveling egg

@thetravelingegg

She/her. I like transformers. My favorite characters are Rung, IDW Megatron, IDW Whirl, Tarn, IDW Red Alert and Soundwave.
Will take headcannon requests

I HAVE NOTHING TO SAY IN MY DEFENSE BUT hear me out I swear dark forces possessed me halfway because it was supposed to end on image 3 AND I WAS PUTTING MY SIGNATURE ON IMAGE 3 but then I became a hostage of my neurons and I continued………………. Yeah it was supposed to be just…. Just some guys… just fluff recovery you know and stuff…yhj…..

Screenshot proof because I have started suffering after that too

I'm like, 90% sure most of Rung's failures as a therapist were the result of JRO not fully understanding what a therapist actually does.

Most, not all though. I definitely don't think he was meant to be perfect, and I do think he was arrogant to keep practicing after being disbarred. But the stuff about how he handled the hostage situation, the "squeeze" thing with Brainstorm, Whirl in general, ETC? I think that was a flaw of the writing from someone who isn't a mental health professional trying to write one. Like someone writing a hacker character and fucking up how computers work. The big difference is, it comes off as more malicious looking in Rung's case, given his profession. But I doubt that was meant to be an actual reflection of Rung's abilities.

I think Rung was meant to be an averagely skilled therapist. One that thought too highly of his abilities? Maybe. A bit condescending? Yes, but not to an overly toxic degree I see some people try to push. I think he was reasonably flawed, but well meaning, and did more good than harm overall.

I like James' writing for the most part. I wouldn't enjoy MTMTE so much if I didn't. But no one's writing is perfect, and honestly, in cases like this, more research should have been put into mental health care providers.

With that in mind, though, that's JRO's fault, not Rung's.

Oh I agree this post articulated my thoughts well overall 🤲 thank op

I WROTE TOO MUCH HELPP

Also spoilers ahead obv?

Idunno about the "thought too high" though 🤔 but I can see it, I feel like it can poke through a few times in some situations¿

I'd have to reread the hostage situation and also analyze whassup with Whirl but I can't say much on those

Also practicing after being disbarred makes him much more interesting to me but I assumed this situation would be covered in canon, because I personally am really curious of what Rung thought was "wrong in their decision". And it seemingly was something tied to "patients are not friends" as Fr*id said. And even in his conversation with Megatron, Rung insists, saying, "I still think their decision was wrong, but (my interpretation) [I can't keep doing the only thing that gave me a sense of purpose because if not I am going to selfishly betray my patients]." OR SMTH LIKE THAT

I don't really think he says he's "great" at his job, because I see it more like "if I am needed, it means I'm good at a *thing*". And oh boy, this is his WHOLE schtick, he doesn't know what he turns into, he doesn't know what he's for, he's always forgotten, he doesn't know what or who he is, he has abstract suspicions even before Sunder?

(Followed by Megatron GIVING HIM A SECOND CHANCE and then Rung says "do you think so little of my work?" Which I read as - I am responsible for other people and I should be judged accordingly. Idk I just like it BUT I AM SO INTERESTED IN WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENED but it's left as background information to fill in the blanks)

On the whole squeeze scenario 😂

I thought it was fun, especially since a similar moment is mirrored in the functionist universe. Bro just likes saying "come on shoot [me] I DARE you".

It's just a thing Rung does in general. Which is probably why I didn't connect it much to his eeeeh. Therapist side talking? I know in both scenarios it's more of a "reverse psych" trick, but even so, functionist Rung would actually prefer his words to get him shot than keep existing in those conditions.

I'd say it's his overall personality (also can we discuss functionist Rung more 🤔) and does not necessarily reflect on his professional skills or whatnot ANYWAYS.

Also I feel like his personality reveal adds much more sense to his character (DUH /pos). And some more chaos and spice. And it's interesting that he chose to study psychiatry essentially for himself. He may not be the best, but also he doesn't think only about himself exclusively. He is just a nice bot by nature, he does care sincerely about those around him.

"Was meant to be an averagely skilled therapist, a bit condescending, not to an overly toxic degree. Reasonably flawed but well meaning and more good than harm"

YEAH!

and YES JRO prolly has missed out on some nuances but I'm not going to pretend like I know better bc who knows if I ever even willingly go to a GOOD mental health provider (if any) in this lifetime ✋️🤣 so I have no frame of reference

That was a lot

Point is I like Rung IF YOU HAVEN'T ALREADY NOTICED 🤣 by the pure amount of art I'm making with him, get Albo off Tumblr this instant!!

How would steering a Pegasus work? I see that often when you draw them they don’t have any bridles or reins. I can understand that because you can’t give the pegasi cues to go up or down like that. Is it something on the saddle maybe. Is it more like the dragons in httyd where the rider kind of uses their grip on the saddle and leaning their weight to steer?

Hi! Great question!

Yeah, the main way to steer a pegasus is weight shifting. This is similar to real-life riding where there's seat weight vs stirrup weight, and where that weight is in the saddle speaks volumes to the horse. A rider can give many cues through seat weight, and seat weight is often combined with other cues to execute complex moves. In fact, many horses can be cued with seat and leg cues alone, with no need for bit cues. I'm not against bit cues at all, but I default to seat and leg cues with my own horse because 1) I know he can and 2) the less I can cue his mouth, the softer his mouth is, and when I do cue the mouth, he knows something is important.

In my mind, a pegasus works on that same principle.

A saddle and pilot are positioned like this:

A pilot sits with their knees on the meaty part of the wing base:

Another view, including the heel slings, which are important to steering:

NOW for steering, pilots use their knees, their toes, and sometimes their hands:

Rolling the pegasus, angling the wings up and down, is done all with the knees and pilot weight shifting.

Pitch (nose up and down) is controlled with mostly toe cues, with some weight cues. Toe cues are more subtle.

Yaw (tail side to side) is controlled by a combo of everything, including hands.

Hope that helps!

We depicted Tarantulas and Prowl as the tricksters Iktomi and Coyote.

Iktomi and Coyote teach us how to behave by reminding us not to follow their own morally reprehensible actions. However, the way they interact is so cheeky and playful, despite the dire consequences that result from their tricks, it always reminds me of these two disasters. I've said before how Tarantulas especially reminds me of Iktomi, as "a skilled architect of life whose morality is solely focused on himself and his creations." It was amazing to see the fan response to this and it means a lot to get to share it with you all.

Before meeting the rest of the Scavengers (minus Fulcrum) it was just Krok and Spinister together, calling themselves Foragers. I’m. Just. Also this:

Was really cute??

I feel like the fact that Crankcase has gone from then being locked in the closet to a full-fledged member of the crew also implies some serious off-screen cuteness too!

I’m fucking wheezing

Just

Krok: Okay, Spinister, I’m gonna introduce myself, and then you’re going to, got it?

Spinister: Got it.

*Cue meeting Flywheels*

Flywheels, grabbing Krok’s hand and shaking it vigorously: thANK PRIMUS HEY GUYS THANK YOU FOR SAVING ME I THOUGHT I WAS GONNA DIE-

Krok, with his military stance/expression: Yes, hello, I’m Krok.

Spinister: i’M nOt KrOk

Krok internally : GoddamnitSpinister

Krok externally, resisting the urge to facepalm: aND WE’RE THE FORAGERS

Guys. Guys they’re miners. They’re tiny cogless miners. Guys

I blacked out and filled the whole three canvases with sketches of them being itty bitty goobers. Figured Imma show you some haha
