if you want to actually start to end homelessness, you need to give homeless people unconditional homes, including when we use them to do drugs or sit around drinking. either housing is unconditional or it isn’t

most of you would not like most street homeless people, I definitely don’t and didn’t when I was street homeless. for every one person who uses unconditional shelter to turn themselves around, someone else will do jack shit and very slowly, if ever, work through the issues that made them homeless, will maybe never be able to live independently. still better than street homelessness, still worth doing. ultimately either you believe that shelter should be universal or you don’t

homeless people actually can’t be rehabilitated if you want to end homelessness. we either affirm the right to shelter for the worst drunken, lying, filthy, cheating, self destructive homeless people that exist, genuinely irredeemable wankers, or we concede that shelter is not a right

occasionally doctor who likes to wheel out a case of a companion growing frustrated and upset with the doctor's apparently callous disregard for human life and their own safety. in classic who this often means the companion leaves. there are exceptions: jamie confronts the doctor on his manipulative behaviour and all the people who've died around them in evil of the daleks, but unlike, say, tegan, never really seems to consider leaving is an option. probably the most troubling case is in the massacre, where steven shouts at the doctor, storms out, and does leave... only to come back. buddy are you alright there???

i really should be studying but I’ve been rotating my thirteen/jamie fic ideas in my head a bit and I just realized I never like. Freaked out about Power of the Doctor here. And like yeah, any reference to the Skyeboat Song is sooooo gut wrenching for us jamie fans for a variety of reasons but there is something so deeply personal about the master, now occupying the doctor’s body, trying to sit in the very foundations of her, choosing things he decides - at a glance maybe, but also through repeated history - make up the very idea of “The Doctor.” her flamboyant outfits, yeah, but also her companions - he wants yasmin to be his, he wants the tardis to be his, he wants the doctor to be him. and no this is not a just a thoschei gush. because that in all the master has observed in the Doctor, in everything he imitates to get as close as possible with her even beyond sharing a body - what does he do? he plays the skyeboat song. and this is so so devastating no matter what route you take it as. is the master reading into the Doctor and finding this thing sheltered so terribly deep in her just like her companions, and her presentation, and her tardis, something he couldn’t understand until he became her? does he see how she will never, ever be herself with that piece, that piece that is so intrinsically connected to jamie? or is the Doctor fighting back, is she struggling internally with the master, is she trying to wrangle back her consciousness, and is that manifesting in the only way it can? when only the most crucial parts of her self can float up through the master’s hold, can exist outside of their body, only the fiercest part of the Doctor, is it the skyeboat song? is it jamie?

btw I was watching Power of the Doctor at Chicago TARDIS and upon hearing the skyeboat song one fan in the audience went “oh like outlander!” And I tried not to kill myself
